running shoes?

I'm signed up to do the 1/2 marathon and need to get some running

shoes. I know Stella McCartney has a line of vegetarian athletic

shoes. Does anyone know if she has a running shoe? Or any other

brands that are non leather?

I've been using Asics running shoes for years and love them. They have styles that are not leather/made of synthetic leather and they use non-animal based glue as well (per an email from them). Actually, a lot of running shoes are made with synthetic leather because they " breathe " better. Just look inside the Asics for " All Man Made Materials " or " Synthetic Leather " or something to that effect. A lot of shoe stores carry Asics.

 

 

Or you might want to look for another brand at REI. I've found the salespeople at REI are pretty knowledgeable about " vegan shoes " , or atleast that has been my experience when shopping for hiking shoes. If I remember correctly, I think REI has a list of all of their brands/styles of shoes, and which ones are made of synthetic leather.

 

And no, I am not affilated with Asics or REI...

Hi folks

 

Mari, Here's some ideas that you may consider

 

1) A lot of shoes that local stores sell are synthetic but sometimes its

difficult to ascertain that info and/or store clerks can be uninformed or it

can just be difficult to get reliable info. If you're in SF (or willing to

travel to SF), there's an athletic shoe store, Fleet Feet Sports, that seems

to specialize in running shoes and I'm told they sell only synthetic shoes.

2) mail order - aside from all the veg mail order sites, I've also heard

good things about http://zappos.com ; they have a specific category of shoes

that are called 'vegetarian'

The Adidas store in SF's Westfield mall has Stella's line of athletic shoes, so you can least try them in person. Another possibility is New Balance, which has many vegan shoes in their line (though not all their shoes are vegan).
