Guest guest
Hi there,Since August, I have been feeding a feral cat in my front yard (who my kids and I endearingly named Sunshine after his beautiful orange coat). He is definitely wild. For almost six months, I have done my best to befriend him, yet he is still very reluctant and we can't get near him.We have placed a warm cat bed on our front porch where he sleeps at night, and I feed him three or four times a day (small meals, as he quickly gobbles up all the food in his bowl). He lets me look at him through the window, but the moment I step outside, he flees. In October I spoke with my vet and after much though, I rented a humane trap from the Humane Society of San Mateo (in order to trap him so that my vet could look him over, neuter and vaccinate him). Sunshine didn't go for it, and did not eat for seven days. He was already so emaciated, I gave up and returned the trap.Last week we were on vacation so I had a neighbor come over and feed him twice a day. I'm not sure what happened, maybe a cat fight, but upon our return I noticed his eye badly swollen (he can hardly open his left eye) and something is wrong with his mouth (looks like possibly a bunch of missing teeth). He isn't in very good shape, and it's breaking my heart to see him in this condition. I need help from an experienced feral cat "trapper" to help me get him to my vet. He won't go near the humane trap and I'm not sure what to do. He is in desperate need of medical attention and I don't have experience with feral cats (we have an indoor-only cat from a rescue). Any HELP or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here's a picture of Sunshine. If you are able to help us, I would greatly appreciate it. Vegan cookies? Dinner? I'm not sure what the fee for something like this would be.I will be paying for all medical treatments through Mid Peninsula Animal Hospital and then hopefully releasing him; since he is feral, I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate being a captive in our home and I couldn't imagine sticking him in a shelter. Our services include: * Trap, Neuter, and Return (TNR) of feral cats to managed colonies * Rescue, socialization, and placement of kittens born to stray or feral cats * Medical care to cats or kittens in urgent need of care "The website says much more at: http://www.peninsulacatworks.org/index.php Robert Belshertacab
