Guest guest
I just received a response from the makers of V8 juice. I find it difficult to believe that they don't know whether their products contain animal products. How can they be overseen for wholesomeness? That leads me to wonder just what might be included in their prepared foods. The text is below: -------------------------------- Mr Norman Sussman, we received your message and appreciate your taking the time to contact Campbell Soup Company to learn more about our products. Unfortunately, we're not able to supply you with a definitive list of our vegetarian products. At this time, the following products are considered vegetarian: Campbell's Tomato Juice Pace Picante Sauce Pace Refried Beans Pace Thick & Chunky Salsa Prego Organic Pasta Sauce R & W Condensed Vegetarian Vegetable Soup Soup At Hand Classic Tomato Soup Swanson Organic Vegetable Broth Swanson Vegetable Broth V8 Juice V8 Splash Juice Product recipes change frequently and ingredients are periodically added and replaced which makes it difficult to maintain an updated list of products that either contain or lack a particular ingredient. I hope I've been able to answer your question. Please contact the Consumer Response Center or visit Campbell's website if you have additional questions. Thank you for visiting the V8 Juice website. Guest guest
Norman, This is the same list as before, and the same text, actually. It is not that they don't know, it is just that they change formulation from time to time. The only ones that can be reliably considered vegetarian are those that are also kosher (with no added m or d on the label), as when they change formulation of these, it has to be approved by the certifying agency. Only regular V8 qualifies, not the low sodium variety (which is also not listed here). Aly Norman Sussman wrote: >I just received a response from the makers of V8 juice. Guest guest
Aly, If a Kosher-considered fish extract is used in a food product, the product can still be certified Kosher, and also Pareve....(which means it is " neutral " ). i.e. neither meat nor dairy. It can be eaten (or drunk) with any Kosher meal. Campbell's response doesn't satisfy me, because they state that the ingredients vary. The response may have been written by their legal department in order to cover them for unforeseen circumstances. But, even if that is the case, it doesn't satisfy my question to them. Guest guest
Wow you wrote V8. You go girl!!! And thank you because I was wondering about the same thing, but I thought all I was going to get was a bunch of opinions about what people think. Again thank you much, and God bless!!!!!Norman Sussman <norm wrote: I just received a response from the makers of V8 juice. That is why worshesteshire sauce, for example, if kosher, will generally have o-u fish. However, to be listed as vegetarian (which Campbells does... the only ones they can say are always vegetarain are on that list.. until they drop the heksher), it cannot have fish. As I said in a previous email, that means the only thing up in the air is honey. Again, they cannot change ingredients to anything that is not on the list the kosher certifier has already pre-approved. >Campbell's response doesn't satisfy me, because they state that the >ingredients vary. > >The response may have been written by their legal department in order >to cover them for unforeseen circumstances. Why, if they used any sweetener, would they not list it? Please read my previous emails on this matter. Aly
Guest guest
Just so you know, I have written the kosher certifcation agency about the possibility of fish (not very likely) or honey in the certified version of V8. We already know there is no meat or dairy, since the symbol would have shown it if it had it. Aly

Guest guest
*sigh of relief and happy dances*I'd just finished a bottle of the v8 splash juice when this topic came up. I'm so glad to find out it's all a-okay.Alyza <alyzas wrote: Alyza wrote: >Just so you know, I have written the kosher certifcation agency about >the possibility of fish (not very likely) or honey in the certified >version of V8. Guest guest
Just be sure it has the kosher symbol, which looks like a half moon with a K attached. You can see the symbol at http://kosher.org/ko5yelo.gif Aly cacophonous_joy wrote: > *sigh of relief and happy dances* > I'd just finished a bottle of the v8 splash juice when this topic came > up. Guest guest
> So, that's it. The kosher certified V8 juice is 100% vegan. Too bad you didn't ask about the low salt version, which is the only one people are having questions about. Regular V8 is listed on all the lists of vegan foods, the low salt is *not* and rumored to have beef flavoring added. Sue in NJ

I haven't looked at the low salt version since the start of summer. At that time, it was not certified. A look at their site does not list it as certified now. BTW, when I make gespacho, I use regular tomato juice rather than vegetable juice. Aly
