Semi OT; Does kitchenAid make an old fashioned pastry cutter?

You don't truly *need* a pastry cutter for this purpose. Back in the day, I learned to cut pastry by using two knives, and then later, an elderly lady showed me how to rub the the fat into the flour using my fingers. But the best was a friend who was known for her pies. She had a small kitchen and really needed to keep single-use stuff to a minimum, so she used a balloon whisk to cut the fat into the flour.

Semi OT; Does kitchenAid make an old fashioned pastry cutter?

I'm searching for one that you would use to cut shortening into flour for pie crust and things like that. They're nearly impossible to find anywhere, and I know KitchenAid makes all sorts of handheld 'gadgets', but I can't find a complete list.Sarah

It is true that shortening is not fatfree, however, pastry cutters

have more uses than in cutting shortening into flour. I think that

bit was used to help describe what the OP was seeking, not advocating

shortening or full-fat pastry dough. I've used a pastry cutter to

mix up fat-free muffins and biscuits. It also works great with

PlayDough if you have kids.

Here's the complete list of gadgets KitchenAid offers: (I don't have

time to look for a pastry cutter. gotta fun off to work.)

Cutting shortening into flour for pie crust was the first example that came to

mind, and one that I doubted would confuse people. Does anyone have a recipe

for fat free pie crust?

There's the old mixing apple juice concentrate with Grape-Nuts cereal

trick (which, by the way, I notice is included in the new Joy of Vegan

Baking though it's an old recipe). You can find it at

http://www.fatfree.com/recipes/pies/grapenuts-crust-2

I have a more complicated recipe that I like better. It's gluten-free

and uses oatmeal and is more like a graham cracker crust. It's at
