  • 1 year later...

Hi "newby" (you didn't sign your name :))! I just asked for the Esselstyn book for my birthday later this month. I'm looking forward to reading it! I was actually just wondering what to have for breakfast when your recipe came through. That sounds delicious! I'm going to make it right now. Welcome to the list! MarilynStart the year off right. Hi Sue! :) The oatmeal thing was DELICIOUS! I ended up putting it on for an additional 30 seconds, to heat all the way through. I also subbed chopped dates for the raisins, and added a small handful of chopped walnuts. HOWEVER....next time I guess I will try it with gluten free oats. I thought I'd be okay with the organic ones, but I was wrong, and I wasn't able to even finish that wonderful breakfast! I'm going to buy some certified gluten free oats and try again. Thanks for the recipe! MarilynStart the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape in the new year.

Personally, I have given up being afraid of absolutely everything. Aside from erring on the side of caution and standing on the side of the microwave when it was on while I was pregnant, I do use it, and feel there's no imminent danger. I do not glow in the dark, nor do my children.

Along the same lines, I also had several ultrasounds during pregnancy. Many would talk about the dangers of that, too. But for me, seeing a strong, healthy baby rather than one with no heartbeat, or one with a fatal cord defect (both of which I have also seen) was a real comfort to me. Technology isn't ALWAYS dangerous or evil, and we need to find our comfort levels with it.

Good morning everyone,

I have been following Dr. McDougall for about 10 years on and off.

Unfortunately, most of that time has been off to plan. I am

currently back, having just finished reading Prevent and Reverse

Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselystn.

I am also intrigued by Dr. Fuhrman's regimen, but I'm concerned with

the fat content of the nuts, seeds and avocados that he allows. I

sure do like the taste though, his recipes are quite good. Anyone

have any comments on Dr. Furhman's plan? I would just be interested

in hearing your thoughts.

This has probably been around before, but I have just eaten the best

and easiest breakfast ever...this one from Ann Esselstyn:

In a bowl, add one sliced banana. Add 1 cup of old fashioned oats

on top (not quick cooking or instant), add raisins or currants if

you wish and top with apple juice to cover the oats. Microwave for

1 minute 30 seconds and enjoy. This makes a huge amount and it packs

well for me to bring to work and nuke when I get there.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekends.

Hi Thanks for info. Do you think that I can use toaster oven instead of

mico. Am against use of micowave because of cancer causing rays used to

heat up the food. Thanks and be blessed! Darlene

Do you have any studies showing that microwave ovens cause cancer? I

am unaware of any.

Hi I will check for you. I was talking to a gentleman that acquired cancer from standing in front of a microwave watching his food. When i went to my doctor he told me that even if I use the microwave that never, ever, ever, use plastic. It seeps into the food that you are using....Darlenehathor42 <hathor42 wrote: , "Darlene" <drljn9 wrote:>> Am against use of micowave because of cancer causing rays used to> heat up

I hope you enjoy that breakfast, I sure did...it's easy and

portable, which I love.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure why my signature is lost again, I'll have to

Hi Darlene,

I would probably just cook the oats on the stovetop if you don't use a

mircowave, that'd be much easier. Or just heat up the apple juice and

pour over the oats and banana mixture, cover and allow to cook on its

own for about 20 minutes.

The question about microwaves and rays was asked at the Healthy

Lifestyle Expo held in Burbank last March. All of the doctors on the

panel stated that there weren't any dangerous rays and that microwaves

could be used without harm.

Don't jump overboard. Unless you have an old microwave that leaks, there is no

problem. Microwaves are not movies. I tend not to stand in front of it

watching as though peering through a window. My microwave is 10 years old. We

tossed my Dad's microwave last year, because it was ancient.

Also, don't sit right in front of your TV (or monitor, for that matter). My

monitor is a foot away or more. My TV farther.

I am inclined to believe the doctors of the healthy lifestyle expo. That being

said, I always cook oatmeal on the stove, because it tends to boil over in my

normal sized bowls in the microwave.

This one tells how dangerous it is to put yourself in a microwave oven

and why your face should not be 2 inches from the oven. Did you really

want to be that close? They recommend you stay at least an arms length

away, in case there is some leakage.

http://www.cancersalves.com/articles/Microwave.html, and

This site is... well wordy. They say there is molecular damage to

food, but do not bring reliable sources to support that.

http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=8774. Everyone should see:

This shows microwaves don't cause cancer, but don't sit there staring

at them while cooking. As another said, I don't use plastic wrap in my

microwave. I top a bowl with a plate.

http://www.slideshare.net/calvinchin/cancer-effect-using-microwave/

Seems to be about plastics in the microwave. I use real plates. I think if something can melt, as plastic can, it should not be used where items will get hot.

All, science is built on research. The doctors we have come to trust are the same ones on the healthy lifestyle expo. They back things up with studies and research. Aly

reading them first. I was making a general comment based on messages

You're very welcome Marilyn. The dates sound scrumptious, I think I'll

try that as well for the next time. What I love about it is that I can

put it all in a sealed container and bring it to work then zap it and

eat. It's so quick and easy and quite tasty.

Have a great weekend.

Hi Marilyn,

In that same vane as the ultrasound tests, I am scheduled for a CT scan

next Tuesday. Dr. Fuhrman told me NOT to take the CT scan, to have the

doctor schedule an MRI instead, due to the radiation. Of course, my

doctor's network, Kaiser Permanente, won't hear of making the change.

I'm very concerned about the amount of radiation in the CT scan, but I

guess more afraid not to have it performed. During an ultrasound, they

found " something " in my left kidney. So, rather than worry myself to

death, I've decided to just have the test done and go from there.

Dr. Fuhrman stated that taking a CT scan is likened to standing in

front of an x-ray machine unprotected for something like 10 x-rays.

It's pretty frightening, but then so is having maybe kidney cancer or

something else.

Anyone know any more about CT scans?

Sue
