Does anyone take probiotics? What has been the most successful for

you? I have a lot of GI issues [ibs, hiatal hernia, delayed emptying,

allergies] and am re-evaluating what I'm taking as I'm having a ton of

issues again [bloating, cramps....all that fun stuff]. I am also

re-evaluating my diet....problem is I can only eat around 1C of food

at a sitting so I do eat 5 times a day but it is pretty limiting. I

have tried a LOT of eating plans and whatnot....I really need to keep

it simple.

Anyway, I am pretty close to making the total vegan conversion (I was

a vegetarian for years) so, I am glad to be here!

Hi everyone,

I take Nutriwest complete probiotic which is gluten free (of course)

and has a lot of extra herbs like artichoke for enhanced digestion.

It has really helped me out. My pill is enteric coated (the

plastic-looking capsule) which supposedly helps it only be dissolved

in the small intestine where the bacteria are needed. Be careful to

make sure your pill dissolves in the small intestine and not the

stomach; the high acid environment in the stomach will kill the good

bacteria before they can really work their magic in the intestine.

Also, no matter which probiotic you chose, take it after a meal or

anytime your stomach acid is lower than normal (or lower than it would

be on an empty stomach). Again, this is an issue with acid dissolving

the pill before it can work.

Sorry if you've heard this all before, I just thought I'd share since

I didn't know coated from non-coated, etc. I hope it helps! Good luck

with your digestion and keep us posted please! The probiotics and

digestive enzymes (I do 3 per small-average size meal) do wonders for

me. I also eat gluten free, casein and lactose free, generally soy

free, nut free, and low glycemic index. You may not need all these

restrictions as I do, just listen to your body. Try to eat a good

variety and portion of raw veggies also for a natural source of

enzymes. Cooking destroys the enzymes, vitamins, and minerals

naturally present in the food, as we all know, and synthetic vitamin

pills just aren't as good or absorbable as real food. Also, if you're

going full vegan, check yourself and your reactions after meals to see

if a certain threshold of soy products irritate you. Sometimes a

little is ok, but over time and increased exposure your body needs a

rest. Just vary your diet and ask around if you get stumped. Thanks

for posting and nice to meet you!
