Guest guest
Hello, I was reading someone's response to the Willpower topic and she mentioned taking fish oil pills. These are ... not vegan. I have heard that eating flax provides Omega-3, but not the correct type. Do a lot of vegan take fish oil supplements? And is it the only way to get that specific kind of fatty acid? Thanks, Jenny
Guest guest
Hi Jenny I'm sure you'll get a lot of replies to this. I just wanted to say that no, vegans don't take fish oil. I heard last week that Dr Mercola, who promotes the consumption of some animal products, actually now admits that fish oil is very likely to be full of toxins because the sea is so polluted and that you're better off getting those nutrients from plant sources. Guest guest
there's a great book called BECOMING A VEGAN that has a very good summary of this info. highly recommended!sheesh! mentioning FISH oil on a vegan message board? why?! WHY???!!! LOL! *clearly* part of an animal! i take flax seed oil and eat a lot of avocados. this is not med advice re: omegas, just what i do based on reasoning i read a while ago and have now forgotten. i also try to eat balanced, take a multi (which i did as an omnivore anyway) and go to the MD once a year for a checkup. i also don't worry too much about food. we in the moneyed west have the LUXURY to obsess on nutrient balances, you know? georgetteOn Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 12:23 AM, Alice Leonard <alice wrote: Hi Jenny I'm sure you'll get a lot of replies to this. On Dr. Barnard's diabetes board someone posted a link to a magazine article he wrote about how wonderfully his diabetes is now being controlled since he started on a the low-fat vegan food plan. At the bottom of the article in a little " bio " type paragraph he mentions how he " needs to do more fishing " this year. I just rolled my eyes. http://www.timelessspirit.com/JULY08/sam.shtml Sue in NJ
