Just bake it according to the package instructions.

Then eat some the first night sliced with veg gravy,

mashed potatoes, etc.

The next day you can use the leftover slices in

sandwiches ~ my daughter and I love them

like that.

If you have any leftover, cube it up and add to

a quick veggie stir-fry and serve it over rice.

We love the Quorn roast here. I always cook one

up to take to eat at a Thanksgiving gathering where

me and my daughter are the only vegetarians, and

people like to try a bit. Every meateater brave enough

to sample it says it is good.

I have tried the Tofurky before and I didn't like it,

but the Tofurky brand gravy is wonderful;I stock up

on those when I find them in the freezer on sale around

he holidays.

I recently bought a Quorn Roast. It's now in my

freezer, and I have no idea what to do with it. Any

suggestions that don't use a zillion ingredients?

Sometimes a recipe I find looks good but requires 4

different fresh herbs, tiny amounts of each. They're

Finally have something tangible to hold onto. Roxanne posted what I wanted to

know about Quorn today and I want to say thank you ever so much. I don't think

I shall ever eat it because of the allergies mentioned. And, my breathing

disease is akin to problems with " I can't think of the name of it " ah the immune

diseases. This does not bode well for me. Thanks heaps for helping me decide

to let it lie.

I don't eat any soy products except maybe 1/4 teaspoon soy sauce on stirfuy. I

get my protein my mixing grains and legumes. I also eat a lot of brocolli.

Fresh brocolli has more useable protein than beef, ounce per ounce.

The one time we went to Whole Foods, I bought a Quarn roast and a Tofurky

roast. I hated the Tofurky, but loved the dressing. And I really liked the

Quarn roast.

I just Googled " Are Quarn products safe to eat? " and got varied answers.

Interesting.

Ron,

Our family also loves Quorn. If anyone understands what it really is I would

love to know I read the website but am still not sure. I know family have asked

but when they have tried it.

It's made of a protein derived from a filamentous fungus. Apparently

this is the first time a fungus like this has been cultured for human

food, but, as we all know, humans have eaten other fungi for ages and

ages. Mushrooms, yeasts, the molds that make gorgonzola and tempeh -- yum!

I am interested in trying it. I have read about it and am facinated, but I

haven't seen it sold anywhere. Can you get it at any major grocery stores? We

have Safeway and Fred Meyer.

The health food place is tiny and have never heard of it.

Hi,

Quorn has been a favorite of mine for several years. It makes me feel better

than eating so much soy. Having tried most all of their products, my favorite

is the " chicken patties " . There are 4 to a package and I make a meal out of

one, so for the money I get the most meals. Quorn even has crumbles now that

you can use in chile and spaghetti sauces, etc. United Natural Foods is where I

get mine, by the case. They are a food buying club and go everywhere east of

the Mississippi.

I've never heard of it, but I'm going to go to the co-op and see if they

have it, then I'll have to raid the recipes. I have chickpeas cooking now..

All those pesto and hummus recipes have really made me hungry :) And I don

t have to use a knife to make it :)

Hi Ann

Thanks for sharing this, this is really interesting - I am a strict

vegetarian in the UK and aspire to veganism but the few times I have almost

made it, the one thing that I find really hard to live without is quorn -

for a long time it wasn't even vegetarian as they did not use free range

eggs, but once it was approved by the vegetarian society, it became a staple

in my diet. I just find it so convenient, quick, and easy to cook, and of

course being low fat it is also a boon - so many of the vegan convenience

foods available in the UK are really high fat. In an ideal world I would

not use convenience foods, but at the moment, with all that is going on in

my life, I have to be realistic, and make the most of what is available.

Thanks again, and I hope sometime in the future we get some good news and

they will find a vegan alternative to the egg whites.

Quorn

Recently there were many posts on Quorn, which sounds yummy. I was

wondering if there were vegan oppitions in addition to the Vegetarian

options but every label I read contained eggs so I went to the Quorn

website and sent a question, my question was : Does Quorn have any

vegan options in addition to the vegetarian if so which ones are

they? I am going to cut/paste the answer for your info:

Dear Ann,

Thank you for your recent email regarding Quorn products.

The ingredients used in the Quorn line of products are vegetable in

origin, but all contain a small amount of egg white which is added as

a binding agent to produce the firm, meat-like texture that our

customers enjoy, and some include milk-derived protein.

Over the years, we have expended considerable effort working to find

suitable alternative binders to replace the egg which would give the

same eating quality and make our products acceptable to vegans.

Unfortunately we have never been able to replicate the textures &

flavors of our current products with the commercially available,

vegan approved, food ingredients.

We value and respect the views of all our customers and hope to meet

their criteria at some time in the future. We will continue to search

for acceptable alternatives to egg whites, fully assessing new

ingredients as they come onto the market.

Thank you once again for contacting us with your question. Please

feel free to contact us again should you have any additional

questions or comments.

In good health,

Terry Ainsley

years so there has to be lots of valuable info in there for you.

Haven't tried it for two reasons:

1) It's not vegan (contains egg whites)

2) High in sodium (as w/most processed foods)

Quorn isn't vegan, as it contains egg whites. My hubby is almost vegan, but he

does make

an exception with quorn as the eggs are said to be free range these days. As

far as diets

go, they are very low in fat and my hubby says very filling.

Quorn Poisoning warning and question

Thursday, July 3, 2008, 5:51 PM

I bought some Quorn cutlets a few years ago, and became violently

ill a couple of hours after eating one.

Although some have asked why I continued to eat them, it's because I

blamed it's not always easy to figure out which food item causes

such illness.

It wasn't until the 3rd bout (over about 2 wks time)-- which took me

to the ER from uncontrolled vomiting/dizziness, and weakness -- that

I realized the only thing I'd eaten each of the 3 times was the

Quorn.

Last fall, I went to a Thanksgiving cooking class at WIld Oats. The

cook told us she'd made one dish with Quorn; one with Tofu because,

she said, some folks get a sick from Quorn. I ate the tofu one, but

a couple of years had passed since my fateful meetup with Quorn, and

I figured just one bite wouldn't hurt. That's all I had...1 bite.

Then I completely forgot about it, until about an hr or two later

when I started to feel nauseated. I made myself vomit to avoid the

hours long episode I was familiar with.

I just want to warn those of you who are new to being veg. Quorn is

the only food I've had this trouble with. I don't tend toward food

troubles otherwise. I don't know what it is about me, or what it is

about Quorn...I do know its a mycoprotein, which seems fungal-

related (molds?), which makes me wonder if there's any possible

connection to penicillin-allergy. Does anyone else here get really

ill from Quorn who is also allergic to penicillin? or who isn't

allergic to it?

I use all the Quorn products and I serve them to family and friends.

I have never heard a negative thing about this product. It's beyond

delicious.
