Yay! Could someone please post this recipe? I don't use TVP all that often, but I do actually like it, and I know that Bryanna's recipes are always great. Thanks in advance!Courtney

are there other vegans/vegetarians out there who have never liked the texture/taste of tvp? i have a wonderful friend from mexico who had become vegetarian several years ago and tvp in her amazing homemade tamales are the only way i can tolerate it. i don't like anything that resembles or is supposed to remind one of meat no matter how healthy. i cannot do tofu "hot dogs" or morningstar soy bacon, either. any feedback?Courtney <cmb0096 Sent: Friday, June 27,

Okee dokee, then; here is the recipe!!!

Vegetarian "Meat Loaf"

recipe by Bryanna Clark Grogan from "The Fiber for Life Cookbook", also reprinted in "No More Bull!" by Howard F. Lyman

Yield: One 10-inch round loaf or one 9 x 5-inch rectangular loaf

2 C boiling water

Vegetarian bouillon for 4 cups broth (optional)

1/2 C ketchup

2 Tbs soy sauce

2 C textured soy protein granules

1/2 C oat bran

1/2 C wheat or rice bran

1/4 C ground flaxseeds

2 Tbs extra virgin olive oil or roasted sesame oil (*I have omitted this before; no problem*)

1 Tbs nutritional yeast flakes

1 tsp each: garlic granules, onion powder, and dried thyme (or other herb of choice)

Freshly ground pepper to taste

Ketchup, tomato sauce or barbecue sauce as topping

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

In a medium bowl, dissolve the bouillon in the boiling water. Add the ketchup and soy sauce. Add the soy protein and let stand 5 to 10 minutes, or until the liquid is all absorbed. Add the remaining ingredients, except the topping. Mix well. Pack into an oiled 10-inch shallow glass casserole, or a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Spread the topping sauce over the top evenly. Bake for 45 minutes.

Hope you enjoy it~

Cheryl

I don't like tvp or any meat or cheese substitutes. so you aren't

alone. :) When I first became vegan, and tried these things I

thought they tasted awful, a poor substitute of the real thing and I

decided I'd rather enjoy the good things about vegetables and not try

to emulate animal products. Then over time my desire for food that

resembles animal products just decreased further. Plus, many or most

of these products contain oil and are processed and aren't all that

healthy---though healthier than their animal counterparts for sure.

But I think these preferences are wrapped up very much in all of our

own pyschologies and we should enjoy our diversity of views. :)

There is nothing that says you HAVE to eat TVP. I don't eat it either. And as Sparrow already mentioned a few posts back (/message/10075), there is research that indicates it has health drawbacks. Thank you so much for sharing that! When I make it, I'll do a smaller

batch and substitute black beans for some of the TVP. It sounds like a

great recipe for " doing your own thing " with.

By the way, I found Bob's Red Mill High Protein TVP at Whole Foods this

morning. It was $2.49 for 10 oz. The serving size is 1/4 cup and

contains 12 g. protein. So, I'll give it a try and see if it's as good

as I remembered. I really appreciate those comments about its health

negatives (stuff I'd never heard before), so I will limit the amount.
