Guest guest
I'll just jump in here for a moment, if I may ;=) I'm not upset by off-topic stuff per se, but I am annoyed by rudeness and pickiness and just plain, as my dearly departed grandfather might have expressed it, bloody mindedness. I don't think identifying the topics is enough. What is someone going to do - put 'Offensive Post' into the subject line. I don't just scan for recipes - I haven't taken all that many off this list, for that matter, although I am grateful for the wonderful variety of things I am reading about. But, yes, I do read the recipes, I do read the vegggie support messages, and I do read the off-topic posts which are of interest to caring people (y'know, human and animal rights and such irrelevant stuff). What I did when offensive posts started coming across my screen was to go to digest. But I still had to scroll past them and keep one eye - quite an image ;=o eh? - on them to make sure I didn't miss anything I *wanted* to read. Result is that, since I'm an excellent skimmer (for my sins) I took all the offensive stuff in even though I didn't dwell on it. *Then* I tried going really really quickly past posts from contentious people, but sometime those people post things that are not offensive and might be interesting. Everyone here has something to contribute, and if certain members want to argue (and some people thrive on it, no problem there) then I'm sure they can take their arguments to a group set up for that purpose and save this group for less problematic and more on-topic issues. Sorry, didn't mean to rain on your parade. What you say is fine - as far as it goes - but not fine for me, I guess ;=( Once there gets to be more off-topic stuff than on-topic stuff, the group kinda loses its point for me. I lose track of what's going on if I skip too much, and then of course I don't tend to post in the midst of all that fearing my post will be repetitive and cover something I missed. It'd be a bit much to be rapped on the knuckles and told that the group had already discussed this at length etc etc etc :=) best anyway, pat > I'm not as upset with off topic stuff as you and Phil have expressed for > yourselves, but I do think such items can be better identified to those who > scan mostly for recipes. Guest guest
This is the second time I've had to say this in the last week, and since last time my request was totally ignored, I'm just going to remind you this one last time: Posts about fasting, offensive speculations upon why some vegans are fat, discussions about "cleanses," and all other messages that are not cooking related are off-topic. If they continue, I will have to put the people who continue posting them under moderation. I hate censorship, but since we've all chosen to be in this group knowing that the discussion is limited to fat-free vegan recipes and cooking, asking that you stick to the topic is not censoring you. I really expect us all to censor ourselves. Please ask yourself before you post whether what you've written meets the group's guidelines, and if it does not, answer the post off-list by responding directly to the person, not the entire list. Thanks for your cooperation, Susan
Guest guest
I totally agree with you, and find the situation frustrating since I have so little time to spend online these days. Thanks so much in your efforts in this regard. , " Susan Voisin " <susan wrote: > > This is the second time I've had to say this in the last week, and > since last time my request was totally ignored, I'm just going to > remind you this one last time: Posts about fasting, offensive > speculations upon why some vegans are fat, discussions about > " cleanses, " and all other messages that are not cooking related are > off-topic. The list for OT discussions for this group is called Planet Eggplant and can be reached here: planet_eggplant/ Sue in NJ
