Hi, all!

My cholesterol and blood sugar are both a little elevated and although

I'm doing well losing weight, I'm in desperate, really desperate, need

of some low or no fat, low glycemic snacks.

Any suggestions are most gratefully appreciated!

That's easy. I just made up a couple of baggies full of snacks for myself. They are raw broccoli pieces! Just wash a bunch of broccoli, dry it well, and cut into bite-size pieces and store in baggies. It's healthy, satisfying, and fills up space inside your tummy. Raw carrots, green peppers, sweet potatoes and other veggies are great snacks too.--- On Tue, 8/26/08, shenlvst2 <shenoa wrote:

think protein, and carb-(the good ones, whole grain, fruit, some veg

like squash, sweet potato) in addition to your veg. if you eat beans

as protein, they are also carb. dark leafy greens, lots of them:)

i'm not completely " furhmanized " but i do follow much of the " eat to

live " stuff. it is a great book.

i also have blood sugar issues, (i was diagnosed in april with

diabetes, at my blood check last month the dr told me my blood sugars,

A1C are " normal " as if i was not diabetic! woohoo!) if you can afford

to go to a nutritionist (and there are good ones and not so good ones,

ask around) it is very helpful. sometimes insurance pays, i don't know

if you are under a dr.s care though.

one of my favorite snacks is raw, unsalted plain almonds. just eating

a small portion (i eat around 10-12, although i think you can eat

more) is very filling. you can do the same thing with various nut

butters, or hummus on whole grain crackers, plus your veg like

broccoli (my favorite:)) one of my favorite snacks/meals is tabouli,

made with quinoa (protein). it is really yummy as a wrap (use lettuce

as the " wrap " )

remember nuts as protein adds fat, but the good kind.

good luck!

Hello,

I have used Esselstyn's book for making hummus and other snacks. I have found them to be rather easy to make and delicious. I, too, am trying to lower cholesterol and blood sugar.
