Guest guest
Useful stuff in small amounts, but remember... Bragg's Amino Acids, Soy Sauce (even low sodium), and Tamari (even low sodium), still pack a sodium wallop. Check out their labels (online or off) and you'll see how significant it could be. I did research on this for " No More Bull! " (by Howard Lyman) and I think I've blogged or posted about it before. In general, I think the recommendations from McDougall, et. al. we trust, was around 1 TBL a day. Of course, even his low-sodium dehydrated soups have a lot of salt in 'em (and he's written that's 'cause he was told they wouldn't sell otherwise). Miso falls into the same " be careful " category. That's what I get for replying before reading *all* the backed-up messages. There's a recipe I gathered from one of the Rice Diet message board posts, but I haven't tried it yet because I haven't been able to find a salt-free vegetarian beef bouillon. I suppose I *could* try with the vegetable one. It originally came from http://www.lowsodiumcooking.com said the woman who posted it. 2 T Sodium Free Beef Bouillon 2 t Red Wine Vinegar 1 t Molasses 1/8 t Ground Ginger ds Black Pepper ds Garlic Powder 3/4 c Water In small sauce pan, combine and boil gently uncovered about 5 minutes or til mixture is reduced to 1/2 cup. Store in refrigerator. Stir before using. Sue in NJ
Guest guest
I mentioned it in the very first response too, but the message was lost in a little diversion down the protein road. This recipe looks good, thanks. Regarding the bouillon, the beef part would be an issue too. Found a low-sodium vegan option: http://www.vegandonelight.com/amazon/?item=B00113SKZC but it's out of stock at the time of this writing. -Erinhttp://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog - Sue in NJ Sunday, August 31, 2008 8:53 AM Re: Bragg's > Useful stuff in small amounts, but remember... Guest guest
>Found a low-sodium vegan option: Vogue brand supposedly has a low sodium veg beef version, too, but our HFS says they have a hard time getting it from the distributor, usually all they can get is the vegetable or veg chicken.
