Guest guest
Jennifer, vegan parmesan is sold in the refrigerated section of health food stores. I rarely use it because I've found that I like nutritional yeast better as a cheese alternative. In fact I have some vegan parmesan in the fridge that I haven't used in ages. I could send it to you. Actually I should probably throw it out. It's only 1 1/2 oz. and cost $3.39. My guess is that it'd cost over $4 now. The way I look at it it's a processed food and I'm trying to get away from processed foods as much as possible. And since I like the nutritional yeast better and my source for it is closer than the health food store, I just stick with it. Here's the label's ingredients: soy beverage( filtered water, GMO-free isolated soy protein, soymilk powder, calcium sulfate), nonhydrogenated soybean oil, salt, tricalcium phosphate, citric acid. Oh, it's manufactured by Galaxy Nutritional Foods so if want it and your health food store doesn't carry it, you could ask them to order it. Hope this info helps you. MarthaP.S. I'll be responding to your private email later. jennifer trump <jennifur Sent: Friday, February 6, 2009 10:29:36 AMSubject: Re: Potato and Arugula soup! where do you find vegan parmesan? Guest guest
I agree! (Even though I'm the New Zealand importer for the English vegan parmesan, Parmazzano... it's nice, but I'm just as happy with nutritional yeast!) Guest guest
Here's a thread on Dr. McDougall's forum with some suggestions for parmesan alternatives: And, of course, Susan's got one of the recipes on her site: Parmesan Cheeze Submitted by: anon. Recipe by: http://community.livejournal.com/vegancooking/438686.html 1 part ground almonds 1 part nutritional yeast dashes of salt, onion powder and garlic powder Combine ingredients in container with lid and shake well. (Source: http://www.fatfreevegan.com/condiments/1182.shtml ) Note: With all those nuts, the recipes are not really fat free. I suspect that this is a case where you'd best just train your taste buds not to miss it. Martha wrote: Jennifer, vegan parmesan is sold in the refrigerated section of health food stores.
