Guest guest
Nancy: That's a very good question. Many vegetarians/vegan avoid sugar, not because it contains animal products, but because most sugar is filtered through animal bone char. However, there are sugars that are not processed this way, Florida Crystals being one of them. It's okay to post recipes as being " vegan " if they contain sugar because even if someone does not eat regular granulated sugar, they may use other forms. The same thing with honey -- lots of vegans avoid honey, but not all. If they do avoid it, they can substitute maple syrup or something. Guest guest
Hi Everyone I thought that you might like to try some of my vegan recipes. Cous Cous Salad 100g cous cous 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 red pepper 1 onion balsamic vinegar olive oil salt pepper Heat the 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan and then add the cous cous and fry for a few minutes stirring to prevent burning. Add boiling water to cover and turn off the heat leaving the water to be absorbed. Meanwhile fry the onions and peppers in olive oil until golden brown. Then tip them into the cous cous stirring with a fork to separate the grains. Add balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper to taste. Leave to cool and taste again before serving. Olive oil may need to be added to separate the grains. Veggie Balls Dried Burger Mix 1 red or green pepper 1 onion 1 can tomatoes Basil Salt Pepper Fresh Basil Make up the burger mix using the instructions on the packet and form into small balls. Grill the balls until they are golden brown. Peel and chop the onion and cook in the microwave in a little water until soft. Chop the pepper, removing the seeds and cook in the microwave in a little water until soft. Place the pepper, onion and tomatoes in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a saucepan and add in finely chopped basil and the balls. Serve with rice or spaghetti. Apple Puff Pastry 3 cooked Bramley apples 50g sultanas puff pastry cinnamon soya milk This recipe assumes that you use puff pastry that has been bought remade. Lay the pastry out on a greased baking tray. Mix the sultanas into the apple and the cinnamon to taste. Spread the apple along the middle of the pastry. Cut the pastry which hasn’t been covered into little strips going from the apple (in the centre) outwards, leaving them joined at the middle. Then place the pieces over the apple first from one side then the other almost plaiting it. Brush soya milk on the pastry to help it to stick together and brush all over the top when finished to help it to brown. Bake in a hot oven until golden brown and crispy. Best eaten warm from the oven. They are actually from my book 'Vegan Recipes by Rachel Henderson'. If you would like more details about it or would like to print out the above recipes with pictures of the food then please take a look at www.bowbridgepublishing.com/acatalog/Rachel_Henderson.shtml Thank you very much and I hope that you enjoy them! What I did when my daughter (who is 13) became vegan is I asked her to make a list of the foods it would be hardest to give up. I then tried to come up with recipes to make vegan versions of her vegetarian favorites (we were already veg). What area do you live in? Do you have access to health food stores? One of my daughter's favorites is a vegan " gyros " - take a gardenburger brand grilled " burger " (check on the back, at the bottom of the box it will tell you if it's vegan) and sprinkle it liberally with garlic powder and cumin. Pan fry. Put it in a pita with lettuce, tomato and red onion. Make a tzatziki sauce with plain soy yogurt (we like Wildwood the best), chopped cucumber, garlic, mint, salt, pepper, cumin. She LOVES this meal. Would you like a list of what I make for her lunches? A good source of recipes is vegweb.com. People review the recipes so you get an idea of what works and what doesn't. A lot of them are very simple. Good luck to you. nancy
Guest guest
there are a number of vegan "cheese's" on the market (make sure they are VEGAN cheese, and not veggie..as many of the *vegetarian* ones have casien and other thingees in em!) so, u can add that to yer pizza me..i'm lucky..i have Lanesplitter 3 blocks from me house..vegan pizza(they use their own Nota-Ricotta brand topping), vegan calzones, etc... chinese food is easy ... italian is as well... and there are a zillion and 1 meat analogs on the market where do you reside? how easy is it to get to a grocery store? do they stock vegan products? cheers fraggle chocaholicgirl05 Jan 6, 2005 4:31 PM Re: vegan recipes I like itailain foods, chinesse food, domincan foods, and all types, my favorite junk food is pizza how can i put a vegan flare on pizza? Guest guest
One of the easiest and quickest things to make is a wrap with falafel and some romaine lettuce and tomatoes. Get the Near East brand of Falafel, fry up the patties, then break up one or two onto a burrito wrap. Top it with the lettuce and tomatoes and roll it up. Guest guest
Unfortuantely fried foods especially deep friend foods gets you serious Acrylamide Problem, ie Carinogens up the Ying Yang: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/food-aliment/cs-ipc/chha-edpcs/e_acrylamide_and_food.html http://www.cspinet.org/new/200306041.html Theres a LOT more on Google.com basically if you deep fry foods you are eating plastic! Your body does not know what to do with it and can reflect as cancer or even worse, they do not even know the full effect beyond or besides cancer! Why take the risk I say! That is why I came up with RAW IN TEN MINUTES no cooking, no frying, NO ACRYLAMIDE! Yes you can thank me later! BUT my recipes LOOK AND TASTE deep fried and cooked! YES I did this to solve the acrylamide problem deliciously BUT ALSO it only takes 10 minutes or less because it is Pure Raw Organic Bliss, cooking takes too much time, pollution, carbon and now acrylamide! My EASY 5 minute no heat to eat Falafel Recipe from the book RAW IN TEN MINUTES there are A LOT MORE RECIPES: 1 1/2 Cup Organic Raw Golden Flax Seeds Grind into a fine powder in a blender or food processor 2 to 3 tablespoons of South River Brand Chickpea Miso 1 to 2 teaspoons of Olive Oil Mix all of the above in a bowl, mix well so everything is coated and mixed, use a fork. Then form Falafel shaped balls and eat! Fast easy and SUPER NUTRITIOUS and healthy, the Miso has tons of active enzymes the golden flax seeds has tons of super nutrients, and the Taste? DELICIOUS soft, moist, creamy you will love it! And it lasts a long time in the fridge! You can even make "burger" patties and use it as a "chicken" sandwhich also you can form little "Nuggets" and make a BBQ Sauce which is South River Azuki Bean Miso with some water and some agave, mix and use as BBQ Sauce for the Nuggets! Again looks and tastes like junk food but is actually super hero health food and organic too! It's all in the book and more, desserts, soups, entrees, amazing! This will be the next big food trend! When you cook or fry with oil, the oil becomes toxic and carcinogenic and your body has a very hard time dealing with it, you also make carbon in the food and lots of carcinogens, with my recipes you only get healthier and more beautiful AND save time! With more flavor and fun! Bryan http://www.Rawinten.comSusan Spain <susanspain2004 wrote: One of the easiest and quickest things to make is a wrap with falafel and some romaine lettuce and tomatoes.
