Guest guest
Old school American would call those thin strips of deep fried potatoes French Fries. And that bread soaked in egg batter then fried as a breakfast meal was known as French Toast. OK aside from the political names implied here, are there vegan recipes for the same things? This confuses me. What is this stuff called now? I think the fast food places are calling the fries " Freedom Fries " now. I couldn't guess what the toast is - " Freedom Toast " ? I guess the French and Americans had a bit of a misunderstanding that fell over to the food labeling market. Strange! Thanks for your help! Guest guest
Only people who are interested in being political and hanging onto issues that died years ago call them " Freedom fries " . Not in a single restaurant or fast food joint I've ever been in actually calls them that. Are you from another country or some really obscure part of the US that actually does what you're talking about? Guest guest
Who cares what they are called? No one for years has thought about the anger at the French - this is a disturbing email. No one cares what these things are called. On Apr 9, 2009, at 8:58 AM, Marilyn wrote:Old school American would call those thin strips of deep fried potatoes French Fries. Guest guest
There are vegan versions, fat-free even, and we call the French fries (or sometimes oven fries) and French toast. Here are some recipes: http://www.fatfreevegan.com/veggies/fit-fries.shtml http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2006/02/sweet-heart-toast.html http://www.fatfreevegan.com/breakfasts/banana.shtml Susan -------------Susan VoisinFatFree Vegan Kitchenhttp://blog.fatfreevegan.com------------- - Blue Rose Thursday, April 09, 2009 11:02 AM Re: What do we call these foods, btw? Guest guest
Between Boston and Providence. But I haven't seen the names then again I'm not looking for them as most restaurant menus are in whole a major disappointment anyway. This country is so stuck on eating animals that its sad. If the family pet was on the menu that would change! I have heard of the Freedom Fries thing. I cant remember seeing them though. And I couldn't remember if they did anything about the toast. I was just curious what it is in here. ~M , Blue Rose <bluerose156 wrote: > > Only people who are interested in being political and hanging onto issues > that died years ago call them " Freedom fries " .
