Guest guest
I went to a Chipotle a few weeks ago, and they told me that they prepare their pinto beans with bacon fat. It might be a single location or it could be all locations-definitely something you want to ask about. They said their black beans are vegan however. 2. Chipotle (a chain restaurant, but I don't know how big an area they cover) -- they sell "fresh Mexican" type food (including organic beef for those who eat such things). Anyway, they sell a "burrito salad bowl" or -- um -- something like that. Basically you can get a "normal" burrito, with a tortilla around it -- or you can get it without the tortilla and with lettuce instead. It's good lettuce too. Very yummy -- comes with beans and guacamole (obviously high fat, and they will give you a HUGE amt of it unless you tell them not to) -- tomatoes, onions, salsa, etc. I got extra salsa and some corn salsa on mine. For restaurant food this is darned close to perfect. It is also all fresh food, and filling. (Note: they also sell another variation with rice instead of lettuce. The rice is white rice, and has oil added to it.) There's also another Mexican restaurant (I forget their name though) that has a bed of lettuce as a menu option for a burrito. I hope it becomes a trend! When they offer what I want this way, it means there are fewer modifications that I have to ask for.
Guest guest
Definitely get the black beans for this. Also Taco del Mar, does something similar. They have pinto, black and refried beans all of which are vegan. The manager/owner at the one near my house is very knowledgeable. Unfortunately the high school kids who are usually working are not so you have to be careful.
Guest guest
I think this is very common at Mexican restaurants, usually the pinto beans have pork fat added but the black beans are just beans (and salt). Guest guest
All the Mexican places I have been to put sour cream in their guacamole. Does your restaurants not do that? Marla
Guest guest
I don't think I've ever been to a place that put sour cream in their guacamole, but I did ask if the gauc at Chipotle (and Pancheros) was vegan and was told that it was. Since it's a high-fat food and I've got a lot of weight to use, though, I try to avoid it anyway. (Sour cream in guacamole? Interesting.)
