Guest guest
Susan V (or anyone else who’d like to weigh in) I have a quick question about chayote squash. I’m trying to calculate the nutritional information in your Southwestern Chayote Casserole using Sparkpeople’s recipe calculator, but of course they don’t have chayotes or mirlitons or even chokos (as we call them in Australia) in the list. So I’m trying to decide if I should use another type of squash for the calculations, or just choose the generic winter squash or summer squash — I’m thinking they’re closer to a summer squash as once when I couldn’t get chokos I used zucchini and the recipe turned out nearly the same. Any opinions? Thanks! Anna ------- 296 / 214.7 / 130 http://eatbreathemove.blogspot.com/
Guest guest
Hi Anna, You're right--chayotes are close to summer squash, nutritionally. They have 19 calories per 100 grams, and yellow summer squash have exactly the same number (zucchini have 16). 1 chayote is listed as 39 calories, so few that it's almost not worth worrying about. Guest guest
If your recipe calculator allows you input other ingredients, you can get the nutritional information for chayote here: http://www.thecaloriecounter.com/Foods/1100/11149/Food.aspx Dena - Coop Thursday, June 04, 2009 2:43 AM Southwestern Chayote Casserole - question for Susan V Susan V (or anyone else who’d like to weigh in) I have a quick question about chayote squash.I’m trying to calculate the nutritional information in your Southwestern Chayote Casserole using Sparkpeople’s recipe calculator, but of course they don’t have chayotes or mirlitons or even chokos (as we call them in Australia) in the list. Guest guest
Right--They won't taste exactly the same, but summer squash is a good substitute for chayote, and vice-versa.
