NThey are not as chewy as a mushroom but a little firmer than a potato but not crunchy like a waterchestnut or jicama. Very pleasant texture, and they pick up the flavor of the sauce, chile or oil you saute them in. You can saute them and use mild or medium spices also. They aren't starchy and don't fall apart, they hold their shape. ~ They sound so cool! Thanks for trying to describe their unique texture. You can toast a slice of whole wheat bread and put avocao veganaise and these on yop with a few sprouts. Makes a great open face sandwich. It's great to see people when they discover them on the buffet, they run right to them and can't believe what they have just eaten. ~ i bet that would make a great open-faced sandwich... what a wonderful idea. Have you ever see the root in an Asian store? If so don't pass it up. ~ We don't have an Asian market here in GP... well, we do have a store that carries packaged stuff, just no fresh produce. You can bet if i see this in any store i am going to buy one to try! > I made " Kaldomar " Swedish cabbage rolls a few days ago, another of my Gran's 100 yr. old recipes. I'll try to get that posted. They are not like the traditional stuffed cabbage. This recipe will give you a chance to use up some TVP. I still have a 20 lb. bag of TVP. Wish some of the members were close by, I'd toss some their way. . ~ Those cabbage rolls sound so good.... and they remind me of the Evanovich books! *lol* 20lbs of TVP? Wow. ~ pt ~ One touch of nature makes the whole world kin. ~ William Shakespeare, 'As You Like It'
Guest guest
I recently bought lotus root at the asian grocery store. It smelled wonderful! We had it sauteed in oil with garlic... it was lovely but not so healthy. Does anyone have any ideas for other (lower fat!!!!) ways to fix it? I read that it is sometimes made into a potato salad like dish.... but otherwise I know of no other methods for cooking it. Thanks!
Guest guest
You can slice it, steam it and use it in soups and stews. It is excellent for the lund=gs and discharging mucous. Wow, I could've used this a couple months ago when I had pneumonia! Debbie "It's the cracked ones who let light into the world." We found the real 'Hotel California' and the 'Seinfeld' diner.
