Guest guest
Hi. I have been freezing beans since July. Got the idea from my mom. She's done it off and on. I have frozen black, pinto, navy, and chick peas. But, I must admit, I'm home all day to three little ones (one is not mine), so I can have the beans cooking all day. Mom keeps reminding me to put them in my crock pot. Don't have the heart to tell her I got rid of it years ago. I need to replace it, though. We recieved a small roasting cooking thing and we liked that because we could put frozen meat it in and cook it. But we don't need that anymore and the inside of the thing is teflon. We all have discussed the dangers of the teflon. . . I'd really like to purchase a small pressure cooker. Sorry, I'm getting off on a tanget. But, yes, you can do beans. They aren't as mushy as the canned variety, but I like that. You can get them pretty soft, though. I fed our twins black beans tonight - they can finally have beans (6 months old). Guest guest
I just made one pound of black beans. Soaked. Simmered. Its way more than I need. Can cooked black beans be frozen? Thanks Tom -------=
Guest guest
Definitely! I routinely cook up a pound or so of various beans....use what I need now then freeze the rest in one- or two-cup containers (adding cooking liquid to cover). Then, whenever I need a cup or two of beans for a soup or recipe, it's ready. Much cheaper and environmentally-friendly than using canned beans and I always have them available.
