Guest guest
Just had to chime in. I'm a vegan for purely ethical reasons and I started thinking about the health aspect of it later. I NEVER judge people who are trying to decrease their meat consumption or do the best they can. I just offer to to be a beacon of information if they'd like it and hope they'll stick with it or do more. While I don't doubt many of you have had bad experience with some vegans who are a little overzealous, aren't you being just as judgmental by basically making fun of their decisions to not wear wool/leather or poking fun at the idea that carriage horses are horribly abused (might want to check out the documentary Blinders)? As an ethical vegan, I encounter people saying nasty things about my moral beliefs everyday, so I'd appreciate refraining from it on a vegan cooking group.Let's just stop judging please.Jennifer NYC
Guest guest
Jennifer--we were JOKING. Not a one of us was serious. I am sure, without even asking, that everyone here is aware of animal cruelty issues, and doesn't take them lightly. But if we can't laugh at ourselves, we are all so much poorer. Guest guest
I know I was joking around. When I've told people that I'm trying to be vegan, they gotta put their two cents in about it. Telling me that I'm still " using " animals...you know, the worms aerating the soil. The bees pollinating. And by the way plants have feelings too. And why do I have leather and wool items in my home. , sahmomof9 wrote: > > Jennifer--we were JOKING. Not a one of us was serious. Guest guest
No one was trying to play down animal suffering or offend ethical vegans, at least I know I wasn't. In fact I imagine many of us are ethical vegans and consider these issues. We were joking around based on some of the frustrating arguments/ discussions people can get caught up in, especially when you are in transition or have a non-vegan spouse/partner/family member. Guest guest
For those people that tell me that plants have feelings too, I now tell them that the cattle/pigs/sheep eat much larger quantities of plants than I ever will consume. , Erin <rileysoprano wrote: > > No one was trying to play down animal suffering or offend ethical vegans, at least I know I wasn't.
