Guest guest
Hi Cher: Just wanted to offer an opposing opinion. While it is perfectly safe to eat tofu uncooked and some people do, others of us think it is DISGUSTING that way. The only time I can handle it raw is when it has been put through a blender with lots of other flavors (such as in a chocolate pudding or pie filling). Otherwise, the texture makes me ill. So, certainly try it, but don't feel like we're going to take away your "vegan card" if you don't like it. (No one has taken away my "vegan card," and I've been refusing raw tofu for decades.) Guest guest
Just for the record, tofu is not " raw " -- it is made from soymilk and a coagulating agent; the beans are cooked during the process of making soymilk. Whether to eat the tofu without further cooking is a matter of personal preference. That said, some people believe that tofu is a medium for bacteria to grow (as, I think, all food is) and recommend steaming or boiling it for a few minutes, even if you don't intend to cook it further. I never do (and I've been making and eating tofu for decades) but if this is a concern for you then you should probably do that, too. (Note: Tofu in the aseptic packaging is, well, aseptic, and shouldn't be a bacteria problem even without blanching it.) DebbieEllen wrote: Just wanted to offer an opposing opinion.
