Guest guest
Maybe some sort of oil would soothe the burn? It's not the same as a sunburn, so it's okay to put oil on it. Do you have any aloe you can try? Any soothing creams or lotions around the house? Otherwise, lots of cold water, maybe even an ice pack, and time. I totally sympathize--it's happened to me too. Guest guest
Get some reusable kitchen cleaning gloves and use them only for cutting peppers. Wash them as if you are washing your hands each time and keep them where they can dry. :-)~Victoria"Tom Fronczak, LICSW" <TJFronczak Sent: Sun, April 25, 2010 11:26:30 AMSubject: Pepper burns!!!!! Guest guest
The gloves work. I have to use them (different pair) for zesting citrus fruit. I react to the chemicals they use as Preservatives. Maybe milk to wash them with. It’s not vegan. I don't know if soy milk would do the same thing. It works when you eat hot food. anyone else try this? sorry if the milk Offends anyone. .. , " Tom Fronczak, LICSW " <TJFronczak wrote: > > Hey everyone. Guest guest
I go to a hair supply store and buy a box of 100 disposable gloves, like hair stylists use. I wear a pair every time I cut a pepper. I also use them for other dirty or messy jobs - they're great!
Guest guest
Hi Tom I've had good luck using the following (either alone or in combination): soap marketed to remove poison ivy oils; waterless handcleaner like Goop; rubbing alcohol; vegetable oil. Lots and lots of washing with soap and water can get the oils removed too. A good dose of your favorite non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication might help too. I have often wondered how much of the burning sensation is just continued irritation after the oils are washed away. A soothing lotion and/or aloe may help after the clean-up process. Gloves are definitely the way to go for chili handling. I like nitrile disposable gloves myself. Oils tend to make latex leaky (thus the advice against use of oil-based lubicants with latex condoms), so I avoid latex gloves for chili peppers. For me, disposable gloves mean I don't have to worry about the gloves contaminating other surfaces or my hands when putting them on or storing them. Hope you find some relief soon!
