Bullhook Bill Fails Wed Mar 19, 2008 7:30 am (PDT) Unfortunately, the bill that would prevent the use of the bullhook and chains on traveling elephants in MA failed to receive a favorable report by just 1 vote (5 to 6). If one of the committee members who did not vote for the ban or who did not even bother to vote is your legislator, please express your disappointment to him or her. You can find their email addresses here: _http://www.mass. http://wwwhttp: //wwwhtt_ (http://www.mass. gov/legis/ city_town. htm) Legislators who voted to ban bullhooks:Senator James Marzilli Senator Richard TiseiRepresentative Eric TurkingtonRepresentative Ellen StoryRepresentative Willie Mae AllenLegislators

who voted not to ban bullhooks:Representative Smitty PignatelliRepresentative Brian WallaceRepresentative Angelo PuppuloRepresentative Rosemary SandlinSenator James TimiltyRepresentative Dianne WilkersonLegislators who didn't vote:Representative Todd Smola (reserved rights)Representative Susan Gifford (reserved rights)Senator Pamela Resor (reserved rights)Representative David Sullivan (reserved rights)Senator Michael Morrissey (didn't respond to vote)People should write to legislators who reserved rights because their failure to vote essentially serves the same purpose as a "No" vote: the bill was defeated in committee and is extremely unlikely to be passed because of this defeat. The legislators who reserved rights either simply lacked the courage to vote against (or for, which we think is the case for Resor, who has publicly supported circuses but considers herself an animal friendly

legislator) Ringling and the other circuses or failed to even do the work to figure out how they should vote. In either case, they are not doing their jobs. http://pets.Fortheanimals7/join
