http://www.peta.org/actioncenter/ActionAlerts-item.asp?id=2484 Urgent: Downed Calf and Starving, Dying Cattle in Kansas Need Your Voice!PETA has received urgent complaints

about cattle farmer Donald E. Peterson of Smith County, Kansas. Peterson reportedly faces cruelty-to-animals charges for depriving his cattle herd of adequate sustenance and care. Photos provided to PETA indicate that Peterson's cattle are still in trouble—fresh carcasses litter Peterson's property. Photos also document the heartbreaking plight of a small downed calf, who has apparently languished near death in the same position for an entire week. Despite numerous calls to local authorities from local citizens and PETA caseworkers, nothing has been done for her or the other cattle. A local news article quoted a veterinarian who inspected the herd as saying, "Those cattle are dead, they just don't know it yet." While we do applaud the fact that Peterson is facing charges and being held accountable for his alleged crimes, there is no justification for allowing animals to continue to suffer, deteriorate, and die in his custody. Please call on local authorities to act immediately to secure the welfare of these animals. The survivors should be confiscated or, at the very least, provided with veterinary care and proper provisions so that they do not continue to suffer and die.
