Guest guest
This is what Woolworths says about animal welfare on their website: http://www.woolwort hs.co.za/ Caissa.asp? Page=ITB4_ RHConText & Post=CO-Environment _Plants Woolworths has always had clear guidelines on animal welfare. These include: an NSPCA-approved Animal Welfare Code of Practice. insistence that all animals destined for stores must be reared humanely and treated fairly in accordance with our code – abattoirs are regularly audited by a Woolworths technologist. In direct contravention of this Woolworths are importing a range of clothing from Australia called Country Road . The wool used in Country Road products comes from sheep that have undergone the “mulesing” mutilation. This procedure is against the Code of Practice in South Africa which adheres to the OIE (translated from French as “International Welfare Organisation”) standards which do not accept mulesing. That is - Section 2.1.9 of this Code states that “This practice (mulesing) is not acceptable and must not be practiced in South Africa .” This is what Woolworths says about its Country Road Wool products: “Some wool in the Woolworths supply chain, and Country Road supply chain, may come from sheep that have been mulesed” This is what Woolworths are doing about this: -Nothing! Profits above all – even when it comes to violating their own company policy! This is because Woolworths Holdings owns both Woolworths and Country Road so they can score on both sides of the Ocean! If they do this then are we to believe that their Organic products really are organic and their “cage free” eggs really are from cage free chickens? What can we do? Please don’t buy Country Road products – especially not the ones containing wool and please sign and forward this petition to as many people as you can: http://www.thepetit ionsite.com/ 1/tell-woolworth s-to-boycott- mutilated- sheep For more info rmation about mulesing please watch the video on the petition site. http://pets.Fortheanimals7/join http://www.myspace.com/fortheanimals7
