Guest guest
The Dallas Zoo has announced that it intends to send Jenny, the zoo's solitary African elephant, to a Mexican zoo rather than to an elephant sanctuary in the U.S. In a foreign zoo, Jenny would not be protected by the U.S. Animal Welfare Act, and U.S. authorities would have no power to ensure that she receives adequate care. In addition, Jenny will still be relegated to a substandard zoo exhibit. Because of space limitations, zoos—no matter how well-intentioned they might be—simply cannot provide for elephants' physical and social needs. At The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, Jenny would be able to roam hundreds of acres of natural habitat, bathe in ponds, forage for fresh vegetation, and enjoy the company of many other elephants. Please contact Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, and politely urge him to cancel plans to send Jenny to Mexico.
