One for the bull! 2008/10/14 A RODEO rider died in hospital after he was thrown off a bull during a festival in Stella, North West, at the weekend, said the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) yesterday. “The man, Sarel Geels, collapsed after he exited the ring during the ‘Stella Bees Fees’ on Saturday. “He died in hospital on Sunday evening as a result of injuries he sustained,” said NSPCA spokesperson Bruce van Niekerk. He said the tragedy could have been avoided. “Our firm opinion is that the event was conducted unprofessionally. Halfway through the event, the NSPCA stopped any further activity ... tail-bending and kicking of animals were witnessed,” said Van Niekerk.
