"...we simply don't have volunteers experienced with babies"

Know someone that live(s) in the Ocala/Gainesville area and has experience (3+ years) with horses and would like to volunteer a few hours a week"

I have better news this afternoon, but first I would like to thank all of you for your prayers and concerns for Theresa and the horses.

Theresa was at the hospital until after midnight last night. She had 2 MRI’s done because during the first one claustrophobia set in. They had to pull her out and give her a calmative, which is still affecting her at this time.

The good news is that the MRI showed no further tumor growth! She has 3 herniated disks that are pinching the nerves, but they can't do surgery on those because the chances of her ending up wheelchair-bound are very likely. They cannot explain the muscle loss on her right side. As it is, her right foot is

dragging. The doctors recommend that she see a specialist to start physical therapy.

She will also be seeing a neurosurgeon in the next 2 weeks. They don't know why her symptoms have suddenly gotten so bad, but they did say a great deal of it is due to stress.

The Batchelors are going to have a family meeting to determine a get-well plan for Theresa and ways for Theresa to have less stress.

Then the BOD (BOARD OF DIRECTORS) will meet and determine what effect this will have on the rescue and implement a plan.

We need to downsize, and at this time,

Theresa is the only one that has the experience

to handle the babies on a daily basis in a variety of situations.

Theresa is the only one that can give IV shots, too.

While other volunteers can handle the babies for basic things

(turnout, feeding, stall cleaning),

we simply don't have volunteers experienced with babies –

especially 3 of them!

We don't want to put our volunteers at risk, safety must come first.

We do need to get some horses adopted out.

If you know of anyone looking for a horse, please give them the link to our website or my email address for more information.

At this time, we will not be accepting any new horses at the rescue but we are still available to network with others to help horses in need.

This being said, we also need more volunteers.

If you live in the Ocala/Gainesville area and have experience (3+ years) with horses

and would like to volunteer a few hours a week, we would be grateful.

If you know of anyone attending the UF vet school that needs community service hours, please refer them to us. Jenny only has a few more days here before she must return to her family in Puerto Rico, so she will be greatly missed. Theresa’s husband has a full time job, her son is in college and also has a part time job, and her daughter is in her freshman year of high school, not to mention FFA and other extracurricular activities. The family helps at every opportunity possible, but because of their commitments that time is very limited.

Hay prices have gone up to $440 per ton.

To help raise funds, we will be offering a 2009 BHFER calendar.

These will be available the week before Thanksgiving.

We will also have a store set up in the next week or so

on Café Press – just in time for Christmas.

Sincerely,

Anne Boris
