ACLU Aids SHARK Investigators

Forces PA State Police to Back Down

As we reported in our last update, SHARK investigators returned from a November 23 Pennsylvania live pigeon shoot empty handed, after a Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Corporal Kenneth J. Winter violated the investigators' rights by forcing them off public easement that has been used for some fifteen years. Fortunately, Corporal Winter's misbehavior was so outrageous, it not only made for a very illuminating YouTube video, it caught the attention of the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). See video here.

The ACLU warned the PSP in no uncertain terms that further violations of our rights would result in court action. We wasted no time putting the fruits of the ACLU's effort to good use.

On Sunday, December 7, SHARK investigators were again at the Strausstown killing club. As before, we were warned that we were on private property, which is a lie. The person who lied to us was driving a pickup truck loaded with crates of pigeons who were to be live targets for the genetic rejects that get their jollies from shooting caged birds.

Shoot supporter calling police

As before, the state police were called. The officer who showed up, however, was a far more cordial and professional officer than Corporal Kenneth J. Winter, and we were NOT made to leave the public easement. In spite of a very cold day made worse by strong, gusty winds, we stayed. If the loser pigeon shooters were going to kill their victims, we were going to document and expose them to the world.

But an interesting thing happened. After the officer informed the driver of the truck that we did not have to leave and would be staying, the truck, loaded with live pigeons left. We waited for a long time to see if it would return, but it didn't. As a result, no pigeons died at the Strausstown killing club last Sunday! The efforts of the ACLU, and our stubborn refusal to be shut out paid off in a big way!

Unfortunately, the killers will come back, but now they know that we'll be back as well, and now any police that are in the pockets of these pitiful killers have been largely defrocked. This alone will force some of these cowardly killers, many of whom live outside Pennsylvania and whom certainly do NOT want to be publicly known as pigeon shooters, to stop their activities to save their reputations at home.

We'll keep you updated about our continuing efforts to pursue these cowardly killers.

Educates About Cruel Pigeon Shoots

With the Sunday pigeon shoot stymied, we spent Monday and Tuesday nights in the Tiger video truck, outside the state capitol in Harrisburg. Newly elected legislators were in town for orientation and other preparations in advance of taking office.

It was a great time to educate them and the citizens of Harrisburg about pigeon shoots. Just as SHARK investigators will continue to document and expose PA pigeon shoots, the Tiger will continue to prowl PA's cities and towns throughout the winter, and with your support for as far into the future as is necessary. Donate here.
