It’s Miller Time: Time to Tell MillerCoors to Stop Donating to Health Charities that Fund Cruel Animal Experiments!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dear Mrs. Morgan,

MillerCoors proclaims it wants to be the best beer company in America—professing a commitment to the environment and corporate transparency. Yet it continues to support health charities that fund scientifically and ethically questionable animal experiments—while giving no support to health charities that only provide vital patient services or only advance research without the use of animals. It’s time to tell MillerCoors that they must begin to support the best health charities that are using scientifically sound and humane research.

Please call, e-mail, or write a letter to Cornell Boggs, MillerCoors chief responsibility and ethics officer, and politely ask him to begin funding health charities that provide vital patient services or advance research without the use of animals.. In a recent experiment by the MillerCoors-funded Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3- to 5-month-old ferrets were infected with 13 avian influenza viruses that caused extreme lethargy, diarrhea, severe neurological impairment, and death.

And in a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (also a recipient of MillerCoors funding) experiment, rhesus monkeys were infected with a Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIM) through stem cell gene transfers and kept sick and caged for at least 10 months. But in a recent survey, 71 percent of respondents said it is important to use their donations for “innovative nonanimal research†and 67 percent are more likely to donate to a charity that has a policy of “never funding animal experiments†than to one that does. Yet MillerCoors executives disregard this information, even knowing that many of their employees—like most Americans—may share these concerns. Furthermore, these decision-makers have refused to take the first step toward creating a more progressive and thoughtful corporate giving policy. Please tell MillerCoors to stop donating to health charities that fund outdated and cruel animal experiments.
