Guest guest
Yeah, real door-to-door salesmen for meat! They drive around in pick-up trucks with a freezer cab on the back, then they hand you a flyer with a list of their prices, and they are always trying to get you to buy a case of steaks and such. i don't know how regional it is since we got them when we were living back in NY and i have had them show up here now that i am living in Oregon, so i think they are all over the place. They sort of pattern themselves after Schwans in the way they package the food they sell. Consider yourself lucky they haven't knocked on your door! *lol* They seem to come around more during the summer months, so i am thinking i should get a plaque for my front door that says something about me being a peace-loving, tree-hugging, vegetarian. ~ pt ~ It is only by softening and disguising dead flesh by culinary preparation, that it is rendered susceptible of mastication or digestion; and that the sight of its bloody juices and raw horror does not excite intolerable loathing and disgust. ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley ~~~*~~~*~~~> , " Lori Lugar " <llugar wrote: > > I can not believe there are actually door-to-door meat salesman! > > But, Girl Scouts don't even do home sales in my area, so it's probably a regional thing. Guest guest
I live in a suburb of DC and have never seen either. My mother lives in VERY rural WV, and she used to mention this Schwans, but I haven't heard her mention it in a few years. I thought it was just a WV thing! ________________________________ on behalf of ~ PT ~ Mon 5/8/2006 7:33 PM Re: door-to-door meat salesmen Yeah, real door-to-door salesmen for meat! Guest guest
Schwan trucks were all over Atlanta, when we were there. I have a friend who's husband did this for a while, but he made hardly any money at it. It is all based on commission and if folks aren't home when you go by or don't want to buy anything, then you don't make any money. Their items are expensive. Guest guest
Schwans has THE BEST ice cream ever! We can't eat it anymore, though Back in my meat days I would get these mushroom cheese burgers that were to die for! I've cancelled all my delivery services here, I had EVERYTHING delivered! I had all my produce and even my organic dairy and soy stuff delivered, LOL. Once we get to our new home in GA in a few weeks I'm going to sign right back up for all of them, though Ic an't find an organic co-op delivery there yet. meg wwjd wrote: > Schwan trucks were all over Atlanta, when we were there. Guest guest
Could be more of a rural living type of thing. i have always lived in smaller towns and cities whether in NY , Oregon or Hawaii. i used to enjoy some of the Schwans items, but they were quite expensive so since moving out to Oregon i have not bothered to phone them up to start any delivery service; i do see the trucks around town sometimes still. ~ pt ~ Constant kindness can accomplish much.Ê As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust and hostility to evaporate. ~ Albert Schweitzer (01/14/1875-1965) ~~~*~~~*~~~> , " Lori Lugar " <llugar wrote: > > I live in a suburb of DC and have never seen either.
