[recipe] Toasted Hippy Granola ~ vegan

My daughter and i tried this over the weekend and we love it. :)

 

Toasted Hippy Granola

 

2 cups old fashioned rolled oats

1/2 cup flaked coconut

1/4 cup roasted sunflower seeds

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or almonds

1/2 cup chopped dates [or chopped dried apricots]

1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup wheat germ

1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup vegetable oil

2 Tbs. water

1 tsp. vanilla extract [or almond]

 

1. Preheat over to 300ûF.

2. Combine the first eight ingredients in a big mixing bowl.

3. Combine vegetable oil, water and vanilla in a dish.

4. Pour the liquid mixture over the granola and stir well.

5. Spread the granola mixture on an ungreased baking pan.

6. Bake in oven for about 25 minutes, stirring every so often.

7. Remove pan from oven and allow to cool completely before

breaking it up and storing it in a covered container.

Yield: 5 cups granola

The name and recipe fits you PT! <grinning> But, it does sound delicious and

think in one of my fits I might try it too. However, in my ignorance, do I

then eat it like the trail mixes? (don't laugh!!!!!!!!)

Yeah, the name does fit me; i'm a toasted hippy and proud

of it, man! *lol* Now stop harshin' my mellow, linda, you

can eat this any way that floats your boat. i like to eat it with

a splash of cold almond milk over top, like a breakfast cereal.

Has anyone ever tried to make this with Agave or Stevia?

I never have, but if you give it a try, please

let us know how the taste and texture is.

All of the delicious ingredients in the grains,

nuts and dried fruits... it would be really hard

to flub this recipe up. Even if it turned out

gooey or not crisp, it was taste yummy! *lol*
