Guest guest
People have a misconection of the vegetarian diet/lifestyle. I hear it everyday. Newbies join with the idea they will become rail thin. This has nothing to do with it. Calories are calories. Pastries, chips, soda, most cheeses, oils, nuts, lots of the junk foods, ice cream amd many more items are all vegetarian and contain calories. I have a vegan girlfriend that is almost 100 lbs over weight, hard to believe? Not when you eat a whole can of cashew nuts, a bag of potato chips and 1/2 cup of oily dressing on her salads, and she fries everything. Now I also have an anorexic girlfriend that lands in the hospital quite often. She's 5'6 " and weighs 87 pounds, what does she eat? A jar of salsa with one corn chip she uses as a scoop, plain lettuce with grated carrots on top, and a few other things with low calories. I have a weakness for sweets and chips and I don't know how to diet but when the jeans are too tight I back off of those things. I will make a loaf of sweet bread and slice and freeze, this way I can have one slice after dinner instead of 1/2 the loaf. I will buy the baked veggie rice cracker things at Whole Foods or try to do things that substitute that craving. As far as meat alternatives go I prefer the veggie loaves and patties from the files. I do like the Naked Cutlets and will eat one now and then. If you go to the sandwich recipe file area and try the counterfeit tuna recipe I have in there, it doesn't taste at all like tuna but with the mayo and veggies mixed in a sandwich it gives you that satisfying taste, like the onions and celery in a tuna sandwich. Now when my nephew Mo became vegetarian he lost 20 lbs. almost overnight but that was mainly due to the fact he was busy increasing his weight with McD's gradually and eating pounds of cheese on everything. An active 17 yr old male burns a lot or calories so once he adjust to the veg. diet he did drop pounds fast. I'm losing weight, but that's because I'm moving more and not eating as much junk as I have in the past. And then people get surprised that I'm vegetarian because I'm chubby. Guest guest
This is very true!!! Well written!!! It still boils down to the amount of calories taken in versus the amount of calories burned off. But, I am going to go and look at your counterfeit tuna recipe. That sounds good!! Marilyn Daub mcdaub " My Cats Knead Me!!! Guest guest
Very good answer. Although I grew up eating meat I never really liked it. However the only vegs served were extremely over cooked canned junk that tasted horrible. That's the only way beans were served too. I can't even stand the thought of Lima beans. My grandma heated up a can and made us eat them plain and they were awful. Plus we always had tons of junk food around. I can't stand canned veggies still. Have to be frozen, although I do realize that it had more to do with the way they were cooked than the fact that they were canned. So I basically grew up eating chips, soda etc and still do today. I also have been overweight my entire life. I always refer to myself as a " bad " vegetarian because I don't eat healthy. Plus I hate cooking; I haven't had a stove in over 6 years. So... I'm trying to make better choices around the fact that it has to be microwavable or instant soups, oatmeal etc. Processed foods aren't good for you but I'm betting this is better than the chips I lived on for years. I've given up on trying to make myself do any cooking - just wastes tons of food that goes bad in the fridge. I have been able to stop the soda habit and switch to water. However that took horrible, constant heartburn to stop. Before I was never seen without a diet Dr. Pepper. Lived on the stuff. I guess the point to this is that it's pretty easy to be overweight and be vegetarian. Samantha People have a misconection of the vegetarian diet/lifestyle. I hear it everyday. Samantha It's so nice to hear that I'm not the only vegetarian on the planet that eats junk food! I did try that slow cooker grain recipe last night though, if everything was that good & easy I'd always eat healthy! (maybe) Everyone liked it except my 6 year old. I think I'll try the microwave chips next. Chips may be my biggest junk food downfall. -Lisa
Guest guest
Hi Jayelle. Just remember true beauty is on the inside. You sounds like you are accomplishing a lot of good changes in your life and for your health. Good for you! Vegetarians come in all shapes and sizes, so just think, every time a person acts shocked you are not built like a stick, you are doing your part to break their cycle of ignorance. i know rude comments can be hurtful, but try to remember that the person making them to you is probably pretty insecure or else they wouldn't be out in the world trying to make themselves feel better by making you feel bad. You have us to vent to when you need to let off steam. ~ PT ~ Good deeds are the best prayer. ~ Serbian proverb ~~~*~~~*~~~> , " Jayelle " <jayelle3 wrote: > 1. Is anyone else here a fat vegetarian? Guest guest
Hi! I've got a list (really) of some 60 or 70 " essays " I want to write (eventually) on my blog related to veg'nism. The following post triggered me to finally draft one of them and post it (how I lost all my weight): " Is anyone else here a fat vegetarian? It's actually one of the reasons I don't talk about it much, because I don't want to be ridiculed. A few days ago, my mom reminded me that the pandas I love are chubby vegetarians (wish I could be as cute and confident as Mei Xiang, the National Zoo's mama panda!), and so was the Buddha. Meanwhile, my omnivore wife's weight hovers around 95 pounds!
