Guest guest
Just a little note to encourage everyone to feel free to ask the group any questions you might have. You don't need to feel awkward or that your question might be too elementary; there is no such thing as a stupid question here. We may not know all the answers, but we would love the opportunity to try to help you along on your vegetarian path. If you are unsure of an ingredient listed in a recipe, would like substitution or preparation tips, or just need a few suggestions for how to get started, please don't hesitate to ask us. That is why we are here.
Guest guest
Okay, I have a question. Those of you who are vegetarians or vegans out of a concern for animals, what do you feed your pets?.. I have 2 chihuahua dogs who love my soy products, but I can't afford to give them too much of my soy or other pricey vegetarian protein products, also I don't know how good these products are for them. Guest guest
Many dogs do very well on vegetarian diets. The book " The Allergy Book for Dogs " has recipes you can use and teaches you how to balance the dietary needs based on the size and breed of dog. If you don't want to feed them meat you can feed them tofu or eggs or other protein sources. They can eat rice, especially brown, and lots of different veggies. if they won't eat the veggies as is yo can puree them as use as a gravy. You need to know what you are doing though, there are a few thigns dogs shoudln't get, like onions. Meg > > >

Ok, do you have Orlando Blooms phone number Susie or Susan Some Americans need hyphens in their names, because only part of them has come over; but when the whole man has come over, heart and thought and all, the hyphen drops of its own weight out of his name. ~Woodrow Wilson

My dogs have been vegan for most of their lives (about 7 years) and vets are always impressed with their health and vitality. I use a combination of Nature's Recipe Vegetarian and home made food, though if I feel lazy, they get petguard vegetarian canned instead of the homemade part. They love it! There are a lot of vegan dog foods available commercially. More and more dogs are developing problems from too much meat in their diets (feeding as much meat as we do is a relatively recent development, starting in the 50's when factory farming began to become popular). Dogs are omnivores (like humans) not carnivores, like cats. My cats eat meat and my turtles eat food that has a bit of fish in it, but all the other animals (dogs, rats, mice, hamsters, gerbils, degu, chinchilla) in my house are vegan. Guest guest
Oh and I forgot to mention...if you aren't sure of your cooking skills for your dog, I highly recommend Dr. Harvey's homemade mix. You just add the protein (lentils are an excellent source for dogs.) Veronica At 06:14 PM 6/16/2006 +0000, you wrote: >Okay, I have a question. Guest guest
Thanks for this info Meg! My dogs can only eat small amounts of veggies without getting an upset stomach. They use to like more of a variety of vegetables when they were younger, but in recent years they are more selective. (I think because they are seniors now). Broccoli seems to be their favorite, but I can't give them too much of it. Guest guest
Thank you Veronica! I did an online search for Dr. Harvey's products and they are way too pricey for me...I give my little (senior) chis lentils and other beans at times, but very sparingly.
