Guest guest
Here's the problem. My surgeon is a follower of the way of Atkins. If it didn't cluck, moo, bleat, swim or otherwise make noise I am not supposed to eat it. He'd be happier if everyone ate just meat and water. AAAAAAAnd of course the line of protein shakes HE sells. (made of sewer sludge and costing a lot more than the ones I use.) Since I am not going to do the meat thing (for one, just a little bit makes me violently ill and I barf till my gut bleeds), I am just following a nice, normal well balanced lacto-ovo veg life. My body likes it, my purse likes it, along with other things. (Besides, don't we need a certain amount of carbs?) One of the gastroenterologists he sent me to said that it was possible to be vegan and low carb. But then before he told me HOW, they put me out for the EGD. (yuk ptooie, I hate those.) I have looked online and in books and everywhere trying to figure out what the dickens the gut doc meant by low carb vegan. No beans??? No rice or barley? Kill me now, cause I'm not giving up my beans. If I eat bread, it is bread I've made and it has as many different grains and seeds and goodies that I can find. (no bread maker, I use my own two paws.) So I will toss the question to the list. Any ideas? Jeanne in Georgia Sneak preview the all-new .com. It's not radically different. Just radically better. Guest guest
The south beach diet is low carb and much more veg friendly. The key is bal;ancing the right carbs versus eliminating all of them. I had just started when I became pergnant, but my parents follow it and my dad went from 300 plus to 250 in about 6 months. meg On 7/10/06, treazure noname <treazured wrote: > > Here's the problem. Guest guest
First, if your healthcare provider does not share your medical philosophy, you need to find a new one. Medical care is a consumer good and you should be satisfied with your purchase. Second, South Beach can be easily modified for a vegetarian diet. Third, keep in mind that there are good carbs (brown rice, whole wheat pasta, your yummy whole grain bread, etc.) and bad carbs (potato chips, white rice, white pasta). Fourth, find a nutritionist who is veg-friendly and work out a program, if you're still concerned. Robin treazure noname <treazured wrote: Here's the problem. Guest guest
Oh yes, I am in the process of looking for a new healh care doc. Oh joy. I have the South Beach cookbook, found it at the library sale for a dollar. Yuk on the chips, bad carb thing. They make me really ill because of the fat and sugar not to mention the extra chemicals. As to a nutritionist down here ... the last one I spoke with when I was in the hospital swore up and down that tofu was made from CHEESE and that any vegetarian diet was bad for me. Er...um...... Thankfully there are groups like this with people who know what they are talking about!!!! Thanks, Jeanne in Georgia Next-gen email? Have it all with the all-new Mail Beta. Guest guest
Jeanne I would presume it would be mostly soy things and nuts and seeds. The question to ask yourself is shy you need or why the doc thinks you need to go on a high protein diet. I personally think some people do well eating more protein than other people but not to the extent that Atkins advises. GB , treazure noname <treazured wrote: > > Here's the problem. Guest guest
I'm Sonya and new to the group. I've been reading the post and saving quite a fw recipes for the last few weeks. I had to comment on this thread. I had to do a lifestyle change because of a female issue (PCOS) which could lead to diabetes. Any who, the point was to go low-carb (doctors) when in fact all I needed to do was change the type of carbs I was taking in. Sweet potatoes for white potatoes, whole grains for processed that includes white flour. In the process i've lost several pounds and corrected my blood sugar levels. Our bodies indeed need carbs. Our first fuel is carb, then fat, then proteins. I used the South Beach diet. Yes there is a vegetarian version and all the other recipes can be adapted. Sonya Messenger with Voice.
