Guest guest
LOL I don't have # 2 either. PT, VE was my first cookbook after graduating from college. A doctor at my first job drew my name in a Christmas Present Exchange at our office. I was so happy that he would think of something like that. Now I am not sure where I got that fig Ice Cream recipe from . I was just sure it was in # 1. Guest guest
Goodness I never remember anything about tabacco in them. I guess I just looked at the recipes. Being in the medical field and an SDA , smoking is something not to be encouraged for any reason. I always just use Lawry's seasoned salt in recipes that call for Accent(MSG). I never use MSG. Guest guest
I purchased this cookbook when it first appeared in 1972. Many of the cookbooks back then called for MSG, I substitute with Spike or Mrs. Dash. As far as weed goes, there's a short paragraph on page 9. Remember this is a cookbook written in 1972, it was most definately a one of it's kind hippie cookbook. This was how life was for me back then as still is sometimes. Don't let that steer you away from a good culinary experience. The recipes are fresh, easy to prepare and most flavorful using ingredients most of us have on hand. Can you tell I'm an avid fan? Guest guest
I have both books in Volume 2 there is a recipe for Fig-cranberry conserve, but no ice cream. I also looked in Laurel's Kitchen, as it was very popular around the same time, figgy pudding - but no ice cream :/ Still - all 3 cookbooks are definitely an excellent addition to any collection <G> I would love to know where the recipe is - so when you find it. be sure to let us know! Guest guest
I own that VE2 with the same ISBN and everything. I just scan-read the intro section, and saw no mention of her advocating marijuana. *shrugs* Happen to know what page it might be on? I'm just curious is all. I am glad medical marijuana is legal in Oregon. It really does help people feel better and more able to eat when they are doing certain treatment therapies for their illnesses, so I do understand if Anna Thomas would say that in her books. Though knowing the time those were written, and having lived then, I doubt she was thinking from a purely medical standpoint. ~ PT ~ The subtlety of nature is greater many times over than the subtlety of the senses and understanding. ~ Francis Bacon ~~~*~~~*~~~> , Meg <itszen4me wrote: > > this is the volume series I had, published in 1978, i bought them on ebay. Guest guest
Maybe it was an older version with same cover. Tonight I am calling the person I gave the books to, I know her and I know for darn sure they are on her bookshelf and haven't been opened since I gave them to her (yes, she is vegetarian, LOL) and I am going to ask her to find the paragraph for me! I am all for medical marijuana. Just because I don't partake doesn't mean I dont think it should be avab. Actually, I kind of think making " drugs " illegal is pointless, but hey, that's just me. Guest guest
I just ordered a vintage one today, used for 40¢. I want one now... her small mention makes me appreciate the books more. I'm a hippy and can't help it and wouldn't want to either. Donna shared the paragraph with me offlist from her copy of the book#1. I searched through my copy of book #2 that I already have and didn't see it there. But book #1's mention was so brief that if book #2's mention is the same it would be easy to miss. The best parts of both books are the fabulous hippy-vegetarian recipes. ~ PT ~ When I have something to say that is too difficult for adults, I write for children.
