Guest guest
wow sounds like a great trip!!! I don't use ginger very often, though I love it my DH for some reason is sensitive to it. I always have a chunk of fresh ginger in the fridge, and sneak it in when I can so his tummy doesn't get all roiled up. Its odd, because ginger is supposed to (and to me is) very settling to the stomach. Hmmm What is a seitian club sandwich? (excuse my ignorance) AmyF
Guest guest
Hi all- I just got back from a lovely mother/daughter weekend in NYC. We had such a great time and ate lots of good food. I have a few restaurant reccommendations for anyone living in or visiting NYC. We ate at Counter Restaurant and Reuben's Empanadas in the East Village. Counter is a great place to eat if you like to dress up which is a good change from most of the more casual veggie places. They have a nice organic wine selection as well as a mezze selection or tasting plate so that you are able to try a number of different things without stuffing yourself. Reuben's Empanadas is a cute little lunchtime/take out spot with cheap (for NYC) specials. I had the spinach/tofu empanadas with beans and rice for $5.50. We also had a lovely lunch at Village Natural on Greenwich Ave. This is more of a macrobiotic place so they do serve seafood but it was delicious , the portions were hearty, and the service was very friendly. I had a seitan club sandwich and could only finish half of it! I swear I could just do any eating tour of New York... the bakeries alone! Oy! Now for my sort-of a recipe. I threw together a potato salad/side dish for dinner last night. I cut the potatoes into matchsticks and boiled them until they were tender. Then I mixed nayonaise with sesame oil, ginger, black pepper, and rice wine vinegar and poured that over the potatoes. I then chilled the mixture. The sesame and ginger gave a subtle asian flavor to the potatoes that was nice. I have no measurements for this dish as I mixed everything to taste (Sorry). We also had seasame turnip greens but my husband made that so I have no idea what the ingredients were. Well, have a great day! Guest guest
Ginger can settle the stomach, but it is also very strong. When I was pregnant it was very upsetting to my stomach, though many women take it for morning sickness and many folks take it for motion sickness. Oh, my new favorite sandwich, Donna, is tomato with a little salt, and vegennaise on good bread. It seemed so odd, at first, to make a tomato-only sandwich, but with the yummy fresh tomatoes available now... drool.... ;-) Sharon akfral wrote: > I don't use ginger very often, though I love it my DH for some reason is > sensitive to it. Guest guest
My seitan club was: seitan, whole wheat toast, alfalfa, avocado, and tomato. Similar to a club sandwich minus the meat. I actually cheated and used my ground ginger becuase I couldn't find my fresh ginger in the fridge. whitney > akfral wrote: > > I don't use ginger very often, though I love it my > DH for some reason is > > sensitive to it. Guest guest
I have been eating tomato sandwiches since I was a little girl. Mayonnaise, tomato, salt and pepper (both fresh ground). I love them, and this time of the year, I eat two or more per day!!! Guest guest
I have been eating tomato sandwiches since I was a teenager, and yep, with the vegenaise now, and salt and fresh ground black pepper. I do like cheese, but not on my tomato sandwich, I just like all that tomato flavor. The bread must be toasted. ) I do this with cucumbers as well, but on those I also add a tiny bit of horseradish hugs, Chanda - Sharon Zakhour Wednesday, August 09, 2006 2:39 PM Re: Update and sort-of recipe Ginger can settle the stomach, but it is also very strong. Guest guest
My cucumber sandwiches have to have thin slices of onion on them. I will second the tiny bit of horseradish!! Fresh ground salt and pepper!!
