Guest guest
Time for some new questions of the week [QOTW]. As always they are just for fun and to inspire sharing with eachother as we follow our individual vegetarian paths [or semiveg/transitioningveg, whichever the case may be]. These questions are for August 13th thru 19th, '06: How do you typically plan out your meals? Are you a once-a-month organized type, more of a spontanious pantry raider, or something in between? Share some tips for meal planning that have worked for you. I am sure we will all learn something useful from eachother.
Guest guest
> How do you typically plan out your meals? I plan 2 weeks at a time, 1 week if I only have a few minutes. I list main dish and buy sides according to sales. i to the mailers at http://www.savingdinner.com and that helps a lot. > Are you a once-a-month organized type, more of a > spontanious pantry raider, or something in between? semi-organized. I used to be a lot better. I am trying to get back into it. I plan on doing some doubling and freezing soon so I dont have to shop or cook afgter the baby is here. I have two freezers, I might as well use them both! I used to use a system that worked well, each night had a theme. That's changed with our eating habits tho. meg

I try to plan one meal and one day at a time (economical as well as nutritional). My husband is a meat eater, so when he is working his crazy shifts, I try to make something quick and easy that he will eat when he gets home...usually grilled chicken, mac and cheese, spaghetti and meat sauce, or bean chilil...with side veggies or salad. I grab what ever ...sometimes a piece of string cheese, a salad, or some other veggies or fruits (sometimes just a cereal bar). I am not picky, only no meat, so I am the easy one and don't require much in the way of food preparation. Maybe I will do better when the weather cools down and I make some of the crock pot or soup recipes and freeze them for later meals. Share some tips for meal planning that have worked for you. I sit down on Sunday and plan my meals for the week so I (hopefully) only have to shop once. Are you a once-a-month organized type, more of a spontanious pantry raider, or something in between? I try to be a once a week organized type, plan for leftovers, etc... but my husband has a really weird schedule, and doesn't know from one day to the next if he will be home or gone for several days. I usually plan 3-4 " us " meals, and 2 or 3 for just me if Tom doesn't get to come home. Share some tips for meal planning that have worked for you. Gather all your recipes together when you make your grocery list. Even if its something that you just make from scratch, write down the ingredients so you have them in front of you when you make your list. That way you can spend more time cooking and less time shopping. Get on board. You're invited to try the new Mail Beta.

Usually, one meal at a time--but when I'm at school not much of anything gets planned! --April , " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll wrote: > > Time for some new questions of the week [QOTW]. > As always they are just for fun and to inspire sharing > with eachother as we follow our individual vegetarian > paths [or semiveg/transitioningveg, whichever the case > may be]. > > These questions are for August 13th thru 19th, '06: > > How do you typically plan out your meals? > > Are you a once-a-month organized type, more of a > spontanious pantry raider, or something in between? > > Share some tips for meal planning that have worked for > you. Guest guest
Dialog as follows: Me: What do you want for supper? Jeff: What do we have? I list off everything in each cabinet, in the refrigerator, and the freezer Jeff: Um, does any of that sound good to you? Me: Well I thought the (insert food item) sounded good, and we could have (food item) and (food item) to go with it, and for dessert we could have (sweet food item). Jeff: Well you can have that, I'll just make ramen noodles. Me: You're going to make me cook them, Jeff, why don't we just pick something we all like and just make one meal? Family: gets into car, and goes to Jack In The Box. Guest guest
LOL! You get cooking that food, Kadee. They will smell it and want what you are having over that fast food junk, I just know it. Guest guest
Well now that's why I joined the list! He's sick of what I cook, so he wants drive-thru. I saw several things in the files in this and one other vegetarian list that I'm going to shop for next time at the grocery store. Should be good!! Kadee Sedtal ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll wrote: LOL! I plan meals a day at a time, either the morning of, or the night before. Even then, I'm only loosely planning ingredients for the day (as a calorie and nutrition counter) not so much the recipes. When I know I'm playing in a chess tournament on a given weekend, that's when I plan for multiple days. > Are you a once-a-month organized type, more of a > spontanious pantry raider, or something in between? I keep the house insanely stocked, so I'll always have what I feel like eating on hand. Sometimes, of course, the fresh stuff dictates when you'll use it, lest it go bad, but that's OK, as veggies are very versatile and can fit whatever mood you're in with the right spices. > Share some tips for meal planning that have worked for > you.
