Guest guest
My favorite food is of course Scandinavian food but many recipes you have to adapt, like this one, I replace the anchovy ingredient with capers. It's a very delicious recipe and I make it mostly for holidays or for a buffet dinner. This is my Gran's recipe. This is a Smorgasbord favorite. Jansson's Temptation 3 tbls. butter 2 large onions, sliced 4 potatoes, med-large, peel & cut into julienne strips 1 1/2 heaping tablespoons rinsed capers, mashed 1 cup half and half or cream Butter a shallow 2-quart baking dish, set aside, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Melt one tablespoon butter in a large skillet and saute onions until soft but not browned or over cooked. In the baking dish alternately layer potatoes, sauteed onions and mashed capers and top with more potatoes. crumble up a few more capers and sprinkle over the top. Dot top with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Pour 1/2 cup of the half & half over the top, cover dish and bake for 25 minutes. remove cover, add remaining 1/2 cup of half & half and bake 25 more minutes. Serves 5 or 6 and it's delicious from the oven or at room temp. Now enjoy this Swedish comfort food.
Guest guest
Thanks Donna. This is my kind of food! I have a favorite from one of Linda McCartney's cookbooks that I know you will love. If I get time later today I will type it up for the group. It has potatoes and leeks. I love capers. Those are a pantry staple in my house. ~ PT ~ We work to become, not to acquire. ~ Elbert Hubbard ~~~*~~~*~~~> , Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower wrote: > > My favorite food is of course Scandinavian food but > many recipes you have to adapt, like this one, I > replace the anchovy ingredient with capers.
