Guest guest
If you don't mind telling, what part of Alabama? I just got back from 4 days down there, the Ft. Mitchell/Phenix City area. I love the hilly winding roads and all the trees down there, very different from Oklahoma! Guest guest
I'm close to the Gulf Coast in the southern part. We have lots of trees and some hills, but not as much as where you were. We have loads of cotton fields, corn and soybean fields around here. Did you make it over to Calloway Gardens when you were in Phenix City? It's been a while since I've been up there, but it sure is beautiful. Guest guest
Oh, I have been to Mobile before, and loved it. Although the tunnel that runs under the Gulf freaked me out a little bit, lol. No, we didn't do any sight seeing at all. My husband grew up there, and we had to make an emergency trip home. His dad had to have 2 emergency surgeries, so pretty much the only place we went was St. Francis hospital in Columbus. Iv'e been there before, on holidays but we mostly just stick around the house since we don't get to see his family very often. Guest guest
Funny that you would mention that tunnel. We are having a fieldtrip to it next week... I've done this several years ago, but it will be interesting to do again with my kids, now that they are older.. It is interesting to note that there are bomb shelter built into the sides of it. We get to go and see all the interworkings of this tunnel, which is a lot. Did you know that when tunnels having busier traffic times, that they have fans that blow them out at a great speed, so that carbon monxoide doesn't accumulate in them? Just one tidbit of many that we will learn... We will enjoy the trip down to Mobile. Guest guest
How funny! I knew about the fan, but not the bomb shelter. I love water, just not driving under it. I'm also not a big fan of the tunnels through the mountains out west either. Guess it comes from being a life long Okie. We just don't have need for that sort of thing here. Guest guest
You know, I love tunnels... When I was a kids I would bed my dad to take roads out of the way that would include tunnels.... They are just cool to me.. Though I would hate to get stuck in one of those if there was a wreck. I mean where does folks go to get out of the way for an ambulance and police vehicles.....? Guest guest
Ok, you know whats funny? I didn't even notice the typo! I think tunnels are cool from an engineering standpoint. I'm just a touch claustrophobic, so the mountian and the water is too oppresive for me. Tunnels under streets and bridges don't really bother me. I'm also ok on the short ones through mountains where you can see the other end when you go in. I just don't like the looooong ones.
