I used to live in Dallas and we had a Whole Foods market. Do you have one down

in San Antonio? Those are great places. I have only been eating this way for a

few months and have found that the local grocery store here (Maryland) has more

than I originally thought. The more I learn and the more I peruse the shelves,

the more organic and unique ingredients I find. I'd say look for the bigger

stores like Whole foods and once you see what they have, take your time in your

local store and you might be pleasantly surprised.

We have a Whole Foods, a Sun Harvest, and a Central Market. My local

HEB (the major grocery chain in SA) has an isle dedicated to

organic/health food. I can find a surprising amount there too!

My partner and I love to go up to Austin and go to their Whole Foods

(where it started). We spend the day shopping, wandering around, and

take a cooler to bring home our haul. Each time we go I try a new

grain. This last time I bought amaranth - I still haven't done

anything with it yet though.

I wish there was a vegetarian big brother/sister program where I

could partner up with a vetran vegetarian and learn hands on from

them....

Beth,

That is such a good idea. Why not start one in your area. Until then

you have all of us here in the group.

Sending smiles and hugs your way

How much longer are we going to think it necessary to be ''American'' before (or

in contradistinction to) being cultivated, being enlightened, being humane, and

having the same intellectual discipline as other civilized countries? Edith

Wharton, American author, 1862 - 1937
