Guest guest
Hi I am new to this group and am looking to introduce some vegetarian meals to my table. My question is... I have seen a lot of things come through this group about greens. When I was young my Granny used to make them and the would stink up the whole house LOL I couldn't get passed the smell to eat them LOL. Anyway I know that they are good for you with the iron and all and that they are pretty much low in calories so does anyone have a recipe for maybe raw greens. Can you even eat raw greens??? LOL I can only remember eating greens once in my entire life and only because I was in the hospital and I had to get my iron up and they pretty much said eat these or you won't leave LOL. Also I am looking for some raw cabbage recipes. Thanks in advance. Samantha
Guest guest
Speaking of raw cabbage...I hope you mean you just want to start with raw stuff, do something to it, and end up with edible cabbage... Slice/chop a cabbage like you were going to make slaw. Thjen, get out a BIG frying pan and put a teaspoon of oilve oil in the bottom, yes a teaspoon. Then fill the pan up with cabbage, add a boullon coupon to the cabbage...chop it up so you can sprinkle it around. Put a heavy lid on top and let it cook about 12 minutes. You might look at it once and sorta stif it around. It hits the spot with me. Luanne
Guest guest
raw greens are good but the best way to eat them is cooked, for more nourishment. They don't stick up the house, it was probably whatever granny put in with them. Greens are greens just like spinach is, only spinachis themost popular. I like cooked spinach, but after trying all the other greens that " mom never made " spinach is last on the list according to favorites. hugs, Chanda - .::Samantha::. Guest guest
Raw collards make for good wraps: http://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog/2006/09/27/collard-wraps And kale is real good raw too. Destem it and make a salad of, say, kale, apples, walnuts (or soy nuts) and yogurt (or balsamic vinegar). I probably would put garlic in any of those variations too, but I'm a fiend. Put cinnamon on your apples too. Delicious! -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog , " .::Samantha::.
