Guest guest
You can find the article that talks about the jellyfish gene being inserted into potatoes. It is done so that they will glow when they are thirsty. http://www.organicconsumers.org/gefood/glowingpotato.cfm Whiskey On 10/6/06, robin koloms <rkoloms wrote: > > Is a potato with jellyfish genes vegetarian? > > > How low will we go? Sounds like they inserted a greeen fluorescent protein gene with an enhancer in front of it turned on by the protein they mentioned which is produced when they need water. From the way I read the article though, they intend to keep those potatoes separate from the other to use as an indicator crop for when watering is necessary. I don't think the genetically modified were intended to be eaten. GFP is a really cool protein. Debbie
Guest guest
They may not be meant to be eaten, but inevitably they will. Just recall the contamination and, subsequent recall, of corn tacos with GE corn intended only for animal consumption. Or the more recent rice mixup. This latter was " solved " by speeding the new rice through the FDA approval process at break-neck speed to avoid any recalls or fines. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog , " debjreed " <debjreed wrote: > > , " Whitney Barter " > <WhiskeyKY@> wrote: > > > > You can find the article that talks about the jellyfish gene being > inserted > > into potatoes. Guest guest
This is kind of like an article in Vegetarian Times I read a while ago about meat that was grown in a petri dish. Would I eat it? Hell no. But that's not to say it's not awfully fascinating. Kadee Sedtal Get your own web address for just $1.99/1st yr. We'll help. Small Business.
