Heavy breads have more calories purely by volume, but if you compare it per

once, you will find a similar caloric load to the 'fluffy' breads. Fluffy

breads are lighter due to more air pockets, and air has no calories, of course!

It all boils down to personal preference, but I find that when I eat " fluffy "

bread, I am not as satisfied and I eat 2 slices instead of the one slice I would

choose from a heavier bread. I end up eating about the same calories either

way. <shrugs shoulders>

I tend to prefer the heavier, more " wholesome " flavor of dense breads...that is,

unless I'm eating peanut butter and jelly, LOL!

I don't think they have a lot more calories, never noticed that on any package

that I have bought before. The ones that I have made also don't seem to have

high calorie ingredients either.

I was joking!! Since both are made in loaf pans and are the same

color and weight (in many cases) you might not know which was which!!

I did make a super whole wheat-zucchini-corn-cheese bread today in my

machine. Not veggie loaf heavy, but with a moist tight grain and

texture. It started as plain zucchini wheat bread, but I played with

the recipe a bit. It's a 2lb recipe:

1 cup squeezed dryish shredded zucchini

1/2 cup corn (I used thawed)

1 cup water

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1/8 cup honey (make it 1/4 if you like it sweeter)

1 1/3 tsp fine sea salt-regular is fine too.

5 tbs wheat germ

2 cups whole wheat flour

2 cups bread flour

1 packet (2 1/4tsp) yeast

1 or 2 tbs spice blend depending how strong a herb taste you like

(basil, rosemary, parsley, oregano, marjoram, etc. your choice)

1 tbs garlic powder

1tsp fresh ground black pepper

2 tbs dried onion flakes

1 cup total shredded chedder and mozzerella. Or any combo you like.

Add ingredients to your 2lb capacity machine in order suggested by

manufacturer. If you add corn and zucchini at the " add-in " beeps you

will be able to see them in the finished loaf. Otherwise they will

get mixed in completely. Bake on wheat cycle, medium crust.
