Guest guest
Well, other than finding veggie safe food when out in public... My husband will eat the occasional piece of meat if we are dining out. We went to Cracker Barrel today with friends. He got a piece of broiled chicken. We ended up stopping several times on the way home so he could ..oh how to put it....it was Rental food, that's it. I thought the beans and greens combo looked great. My friend whispered to me that it was loaded with ham. I ended up with a salad and corn bread muffin. Her husband got the greens and beans and they were loaded with ham. Close call. She ordered the vegetable soup. Guess what was in it. Yep. Meat. She didn't even make it out of the place before it too was Rental Food. Another down side to being veg is that after the meat/fowl/etc toxins and garbage are out of your body, a lot of us can SMELL carnivores. We often walk at night and have been less than a couple of yards away from deer, foxes and opossums. We don't smell like predators, you see. I guess there are more down sides to being a vegetarian/vegan/whatever but not enough to make me return to the life and diet of a carnivore. I seem to recall another carnivore that didn't make it: T Rex. Jeanne in GA whose greens and pinto beans do not have ham in them *burp* Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail beta. Guest guest
Oh man....hate this! However, it does seem the one and only time I have been to Cracker Barrel I ordered a really yummy salad with a cranberry dressing? My memory is foggy, whatdyado? Order mashed potatoes and eat slowly and smile often? While everyone else is feasting on flesh? Living in the south, I have faced this since I became a veg at age 6 or 7:) It really stinks to be labled as picky..... " Thia .... Guest guest
Zaxby's is tricky too. You can either order a salad sans meat (no price reduction) or fries and coleslaw, which is what I had. Being a relatively new veggie in an omni family, I try not to press my diet too much, but I'll avoid Zaxby's from now on! L
Guest guest
wow, my sister and I will drive a good ways down the road when we're hungry to get to a Cracker Barrel. Guest guest
Wow, I had to write. I am a lurker but that's ok. I have developed an allergy to ALL COW MILK PRODUCTS. Its been a fun 6 months. Try finding anything in a rest. that doesn't have any of those produces. no milk, no butter, no cheese. nothing. I have been at some rest. that have literally nothing on the menu I can eat. I have found that if you ask nicely and explain why Applebees will make sure they don't put anything in my salads. They can't promise there is nothing but I have never found anything in them that would make me sick, even if the menu says there is cheese ect in the meal. So, anyways, just ask, but ask nice don't be obnoxious. maryann Cheap Talk? Check out Messenger's low PC-to-Phone call rates.
Guest guest
We also get a veggie plate. Seems like carrots, baked potato, salad, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, fried okra, macaroni and cheese, corn and hashbrown casserole were some of the selections that were vegetarian, that I can remember. We love their store and the game on the table. Guest guest
Well you've hit on what I hate the most about being vegan: they put dairy products in EVERYTHING--and now they want to know why so many people are becoming allergic to dairy and/or lactose intolerant! I am allergic to dairy and have a mild allergy to eggs, so being vegan is a necessity. On 11/13/06, Thia .... <bipolyf wrote: > > whatdyado? Guest guest
Jack in the Box is great- they charge for bread and cheese, and the vegetables are free. A sandwich ends up costing about 40¢. Smart for them, we go there a lot. They even toast the sourdough bread away from where they cook any meat. Guest guest
I have a friend who is intolerant of cow dairy products. (not lactose intolerant) It's been fun planning menus for him. I can't say anything about eating out, though. Good luck with it all. Beth Maryann Burke <chiroblr wrote: Wow, I had to write. I am a lurker but that's ok. Guest guest
Not at the Jack in the Box here. They charge full price just leave out the meat or ingredients you ask to leave out. Guest guest
Oh man, tell them to charge per item!! Some employees don't know they can do that. Maybe you could talk to the manager about it? We've gotten so lucky here, the manager is great and he sees us drive up, takes our order, cons us into getting dessert *every* time, and really cracked my mom up once on the phone- we put her on speaker as we drove up to the drive-thru, and my husband Jeff started telling whoever was doing drive-thru that our order was posted by the register, just copy that down, and Justin (the manager) butts in, " I got it, I got it, " then proceeds to tell the other person that we want cheesecake as well! Make them charge per item, though... I get sourdough bread, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, and double cheese for like 40¢. Very good!
