Guest guest
I sent my DH to the store for some cake mix & some canned frosting on Friday for DS's birthday (my big boy is 5 now!) just for something quick, his party isn't till around T-day time since we combine their parties (DD's is on the 28th) so I wanted something to celebrate his bday. So DH comes home w/ regular brand name cake mix & Great value frosting. Fine. I throw the cake in the oven & frost it while we watch DS's new DVD, " Cars " and then we sing happy birthday and eat a piece of cake. I had a small piece, then later while cleaning up read the label on the frosting. BEEF FAT??????? WHY would there been a need for beef fat in frosting? I spent the rest of the day looking green & irritated because someone " slipped " meat by me. I should have read the label, but now I realize I'm going to have to start really reading labels & making more stuff from scratch. Sorry this was a bit of a wakeup call for me I hate the idea that this stuff is in everyday products, for no good reason. ~*~Whitney~*~ . Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail beta. Guest guest
Oh Whitney that is terrible! I had no idea and am glad you gave the heads up because I will probably end up using store bought cake mix and frosting for the Andes mint choc cake. Hope he had a happy birthday. I know he loved the movie, it is a darling show. The tractor tipping part is probably my favorite. Bleh, beef fat. We do need to give each other these heads up when things like this sneak in. Thank you again! They are going to go for the cheapest route. Thia
Guest guest
Well now I know better I read the Great Value box of pumpkin & bananna bread, and yep, beef tallow is one of the ingredients in both of those too. Guess I should check the name brands too, just to be sure~ but I'll be cooking from scratch from now on. Whit > BEEF FAT??????? Guest guest
Definitely ick! And not only do you have to read labels carefully - you have to *keep* reading them onthe things you buy all the time. There I was munching away on my fave bbq chips (on which I had read the label) and months later I re-read the label and it now has chicken fat in it. Major ick! How many months was I eating that?!? Keep reading those labels Whitney! Peace, Diane > > BEEF FAT??????? WHY would there been a need for beef fat in frosting?
