Okay, really dumb q's here, but better you guys, than someone who

could look at me with the " are you stoopid? " look?

While, yes, I am a newbie veggie, I have the following question:

" Are the following considered vegetables? I know it soulds dumb, but I

tend to categorize everything I eat (protiens, carbs, etc.) and am

adjusting to the idea that my protein (formerly meat) could be a

vegetable!

Potatoes

Tofu

Beans

Thanks for your patience,

Lori

I'm sure there are others that are wondering the same thing. It is not a dumb

question.

I remember one of my teachers used to say, that for everyone one person that

would ask a question in a

classroom full of people there were at least 10 in that room that were wondering

the same thing.

Potatoes are consider both a starch and a vegetable.

Tofu and Beans are protein and vegetable.

Check out this great chart. It explains things well.

Hi Lori,

I'm a newbie too, but I think I can answer this one. I'm mildy hypoglycemic so

I have to make sure I eat enough protein and not too much sugar or I feel pretty

bad. This kept me from following my heart and becoming a vegetarian for a long

time. I'm not a huge carbo junkie so I don't really worry about that, but I do

make sure to eat a good amount of protein at each meal. I also focus on eating

green leafy stuff with lots of iron in eat. Some of my favorite protein foods

are:

avocados

black beans

cheese (cheddar, swiss, feta, cream cheese)

boca burgers (the vegan " grilled " kind)

eggs

granolas

I would like to add more grains to my diet, but I don't know how to cook with

them yet!

Have a good day,

Melissa

I have read that white potatoes, as white bread, is not good to eat. Yet, the

white potato used to be rather nutritious, I once thought. The only reason I

think that white potatoes became 'bad' is the glycemic factor (of becoming sugar

quicker). I had a friend who made her diet primarily of a baked potato with

light butter and light sour cream and vegetarian vegetable soup, and she dropped

a lot of weight. I prefer sweet potatoes, but their weird shapes make them a

little harder to make without peeling in the microwave. There is protein even

in Swiss chard, I think. Just do a Google search for protein and you will find

lots of ideas.

Avocados have very little protein,

only a gram per 100 calories.
