cooking meat for others?

This is just an opinion thing. For two years I cared for my grandparents and

helped my Grandma cook and things. Much of that cooking included meat, and

since it was my Grandma, I never refused to help her, no matter how bad I

felt. She passed away a week ago, and now it's just me and Pappaw. I still cook

meat for him, 'cause he's 75 years old, eaten meat all his life, and no matter

what I say, I can't change him, LOL. Have any of you ever had to cook meat

for others? How did you feel about it?

Sorry I've been so scarce lately. Time has become my worst enemy!

Love,

Sara

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your Grandma. I just lost mine

recently too. It's so nice you're taking care of Pappaw. Cook meat for him if

that's what he's use to eating. Sometimes you just can't be a complete guerilla

vegetarian! Just my two centavos.

If I'm being asked to cook for someone else, they will eat what I am

willing to cook or they will cook for themselves. It's just simple

respect, people know I'm a vegetarian and they know why, and I will

not change my beliefs or go against them for anyone else. On another

note, the way meat rots in the body I consider it poison. I wouldn't

want to cook poison for anyone!!

As the years go by and you experience more of life you

will see how important it is not to make anther big

change in his life, it's OK to enjoy all the precious

moments Sara has with Grampy, he's mourning his

beloved passing of his wife and her Gran so making him

comfortable right now it very important and eating

what he's used to is comfort food. Sara try to make

things Gran used to make for him.

No need to be a " Food Nazi " with him right now,

cutting down on his meat will be easy for Sara since

she's collected lots of good recipes within the group

and he probably won't miss meat in many of the dishes.

Donna,

Very well said and good advise. Lately I have fixed non-vegetarian

for my guy friend. Most of the time he eats wild salmon, etc. and

fixes it for himself which I prefer, but on occasion I will do it. We

can only make these decisions for ourselves and set by example never

trying to change someone's mind or life style.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all group members.

Everyone is at their own level of understanding.

Love and hugs

That's the way I treat it when cooking for anyone BUT Pappaw. He's not able

to cook for himself and if he asks for something with meat in it, I cannot

say no. It's a respect thing for him. Now for my uncle, mom, sisters, aunt,

etc., it's eat what I've made or starve. Take your pick, LOL.

I couldn't have said it better, Donna. :) And yes, I've collected many good

recipes from you all! They're so good it makes me realize just how lucky I am

to have found vegetarianism! :)

My current rule is that, in my house, we don't cook or prepare meat

for anyone other than the animals we have that need it. I'm also a

petsitter by trade and I often have the handle meat for my clients.

But for other humans, I don't make any seperate meals or whatever if

we have guests. My partner also eats dairy and eggs and I don't, so

she just makes her own food when she is including those

ingredients. I don't make a big deal about it unless the other

person does, but its a " my house, my rules " thing.

That said, I think that if I was in a position where I was the

primary caregiver to someone who still ate meat and who was unable

to cook for themselves, I would probably make it for them. I'd

encourage them to eat more vegetarian meals or parts of meals, but

its their choice to keep eating meat and I'd respect that.
