Guest guest
Hi Mike - I've been there myself. Don't keep it in the house for starters. Eat more beans or filling foods. Think about which foods give you the full feeling. Make some black bean burgers and load them with all the usual stuff. Give it some time and it will pass. Good luck. Guest guest
In all honesty, I think many people would benefit from " going vegetarian " in stages - say, cutting down meat consumption to 50 percent, then 40, then 20, until you get to none. Or until you decide, like many, many people I know, that they can still eat meat maybe 5 percent of the time, or a couple of times a year. This has helped many people I know deal with cravings. Others benefit from going 100 percent immediately and never look at meat again. A lot of people argue about this, but I think it's important to be gentle and kind to yourself. I've learned the hard way about going all-out with things. At any rate, just suddenly completely changing your diet can be a real shock to the system. While you can get through it, the stress, worry, and obsessing that some people go through trying to be " perfect " in their diet is probably causing them more harm than a burger or piece of chicken every few weeks would. Try tofu and maybe faux meat. I do like the " chicken-less " patties and nuggets, but I really don't eat them anymore. And yeah, the videos. I didn't set out to become vegetarian, just consuming less meat for health reasons. I cooked meatless 2 nights a week. I even used chicken broth or beef broth at first to still have that familiar flavor. Pretty soon it was 3 times a week and then meat only on weekends. After a while both of my kids and I lost our taste for meat. That was about 15 years ago. I rarely have meat substitutes, like veggie burgers, TVP, etc, now. I no longer feel that I must have a meat substitute as the center of the meal. I have a much more varied diet now. I still consume eggs and dairy but am eating less of those now. I never buy milk and have been very happy with soy milk for 10 years or so. I am sure that within another year or 2 that I have transitioned to a vegan diet. This is what worked for me. It was no sacrifice; I just simply lost my taste for meat. Of course now I object to a meat based diet for humanitarian reasons as well as health. And in these times, a vegetarian diet is much less expensive than a meat based diet. Good luck. Make your diet changes at your own pace. What works for one doesn't work for all. You will receive a lot of support from this group. And be sure and check out the tons of recipies in the files. Deb in Idaho
