Try the SoyToy @ http://www.soytoy.com it's a great soy milk maker. And you don't have to soak the beans first.

Soy milk maker

Does anyone here own a soy milk maker? I'm interested in purchasing one for making soy milk and tofu at home. Any recommendations on a maker and tofu "kit" (box)? Please advise. Thanks!Terri

I have a Soya Joy; I have had it for 2 yrs now and

LOVE it! :) And the people at their support center

and really great.

Chef Marie Oser on her soy talk board at

www.vegsource.com has information you can click on all

about it. Also www.vegwebtv.com (?) there are videos

of how to use it to make soymilk and tofu. There is a

link there I believe to a tofu making kit.

I googled and someone said that the milk comes out very pulpy. How

does it compare to vitasoy / silk / westsoy, etc.? Do you have to

soak or cook the beans beforehand? How arduous is the cleanup?

Hello Again

quick to make

easy to clean (hot water rinse)

no pre soak needed

yes ..... you will get okara (sp?)

the " mush " can be used in other recipes

if you don't like kitchen gadgets, cleaning, reading instructions, and playing

around to get it just right ..... don't bother getting one ..... it will be more

trouble than its worth

(I like all of the above)

I also like to do dishes

I need help .....................

Just my 2c worth.

About a year ago I purchased a SoyToy through Robert Cohen, the

Notmilk Man. With shipping, I believe it was around $180.

I've been very pleased with it. You use 1/2 cup of soybeans. I

sometimes exchange a tablespoon or so of the soybeans and play

around with other grains. It's very inexpensive to make, as opposed

to the $2.50+ I used to pay for Silk.

Honestly, though, the taste isn't the same. Although still a good

product, the Silk does have other additives. I have gotten very used

to the taste now and have no problems with it. I sometimes play

around with flavor enhancers: a tablespoon or so of sweetener,

definitely about 1/4 teaspoon of salt, maybe a teaspoon of vanilla

or almond extract. Sometimes I'll add a tablespoon or two of tapioca

for some soybeans to thicken it up. Sometimes I'll add whole

coffeebeans for coffee soymilk.

The SoyToy discussion list has been inactive, but is scheduled to

start up again in a month or so.

Oh...I also got a WONDERFUL soy ice cream recipe from someone on the

SoyToy list! What a joy to make homemade SOY ice cream for hot

summer days! Makes my soy shakes that much better tasting!

You might find one cheaper on eBay, but personally, I'd be concerned

about any warranty. My wire basket had an issue after less than a

year. I contacted Mr. Cohen and received a replacement in 3 days.

I have been considering getting a soy milk maker for a long time. Quick

questions, how much soy milk does a half cup of soybeans make and does the

homemade soymilk taste more " beany " ? They soy ice cream sounds yummy.

I use a SoyaJoy too and love it! The cleanup is easy IF you do it right after

using the maker. I've made soy, rice, and almond milk with it. I have used the

rice pulp(?) to make patties that my family couldn't stop eating. I mixed the

pulp with ground sunflower seeds, a little quick oats to make the mixture stiff,

and added 1 blended onion and baked the patties until golden brown on both sides

at 450 degrees.

I am try to " wean " my family off of Rice Dream Milk, but just can't seem to

produce a rice milk in the SoyaJoy that matches the commercial taste. I've

tried SoyaJoy's recipe, but my children don't like it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for rice milk that might come close to Rice

Dream's?

I will have to try those patties! I've been using all sorts of crazy stuff in

mine lately, just for variety. Right now in the fridge we have

soy-rice-quinoa-kamut-spelt-barley-15 bean mix-milk. :) My kids are really too

young to be griping though. :)
